NEWS TO KNOW
The recent rains have created ideal conditions for threatened California Red-legged frogs’ breeding in the Bay Area, and the Zoo’s Conservation team alongside our partner, WRA Environmental Consultants, collected eggs for this year’s head-start group this week. Pictured is Dr. Rochelle Stiles, our Director of Field Conservation and, along with staff, will care for these eggs throughout their development as tadpoles until they metamorphose. Come this fall, the team will release these young frogs into restored wetlands in Solano County to aid in their survival in our “backyards”.
Come see California Red-legged frogs on exhibit in the Conservation Corridor, located across from Koala Crossing.
Dr. Rochelle Stiles and her team conduct meaningful conservation research and action in our Senator Dianne Feinstein Conservation and Wellness Center located behind the scenes at the zoo. Although, not open to visitors, the conservation work conducted here provides an impact that will be felt for generations to come. Help support their efforts by donating to our conservation fund here. (https://www.sfzoo.org/conservation-donation-fund/)
