Little Learners Virtual Program
https://www.sfzoo.org/zoo-camp/
Our popular Little Learners program is back after a hiatus and is now being presented virtually and offered for free to reach more kids and families! This upcoming winter program (January thru March) will feature the A, B, C’s of our Zoo animals, hosted “live” from our Little Learners Cabin and accessed through Zoom on Thursdays and Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The Little Learners program offers fun facts and connections to science geared to kids ages 2½ to 4 and follows the education frameworks and recommendations for early learners under age 5. Each program will include a featured animal (for example, “A is for armadillo”) and toddlers and caregivers will be able to learn and play along during the 30-minute sessions.

Over the course of five weeks, featured sessions will be offered twice-weekly. The first session will start on Thursday, January 30 and offered again on Saturday, February 1st. USDA Renews SF Zoo’s License
We are thrilled to announce that we have been granted a renewal of our license by the United States Department of Agriculture, (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS). The re-license inspection identified no non-compliant items after its comprehensive inspection of species and animal areas conducted earlier this week. While the USDA renewal is a standard process we go through every three years, we are nonetheless proud that we have passed this rigorous inspection. Zoo staff continues to provide the best of care for our resident animals, while also ensuring individualized preventative care and enrichment for the betterment of their lives and share an appreciation of wildlife with the City’s children.

USDA regulates animal-related facilities under the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) with licensees required to show compliance within USDA’s strict standards. According to APHIS, the Animal Welfare Act Regulations and Standards cover humane handling, housing, space, feeding and watering, sanitation, ventilation, shelter from extreme weather events, veterinary care, separation of incompatible animals, transportation and handling in transit.

SF Zoo is an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), which also conducts a thorough inspection during its accreditation process. SF Zoo received its five-year accreditation during its last cycle, in 2023.
