CONSERVATION
Recap on our 17 Critically Endangered Species
Over the past several months, we have shared with you fascinating facts about the 17 critically endangered species that reside at SF Zoo. We've highlighted these species, from the axolotl whose population has declined to just 50-1,000 individuals in their native Mexico to the Bornean orangutan, a great ape living on the brink of extinction, to illustrate just how precarious the situation is for these species.

The most comprehensive source to find the extinction risk of the thousands of plant, animal and fungi species is the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species, which not only shares the current population of each vulnerable, endangered and critically endangered species in the world, but also provides species current range, threats that impact habitat loss, deforestation and fragmentation, and also other factors that may affect species, from disease to climate change to the illegal wildlife trade. The Red List also discusses the important work being done by conservationists to protect and save vulnerable species.

As we continue to raise awareness of both endangered and critically endangered species living here and around the world, we hope this knowledge serves as a reminder that the world is smaller than we sometimes think, and our actions as humans have consequences. We must all do our part for the future of wildlife and beyond.

Roar & Pour was a Wine Tasters' Delight!
Wine connoisseurs and Zoo enthusiasts found common ground at our successful Roar & Pour wine tasting event that took place last Friday, June 27th. The evening event was a perfect blend of 20 top wineries and one distillery, DJ and live music, delicious nosh items and animals that are crepuscular, or active at dusk! In addition to a general admission ticket, we also offered a VIP area, where guests sipped and socialized, and were thrilled with an opportunity to feed our giraffes. And the weather was perfect!

A big thank you to our guest wineries: Blackbird Vineyards, Bella Union, Copain Wines, Girard, Griffin's Lair Vineyard, Ketcham Vineyard & Winery, La Sirena, MacRostie Winery and Vineyards, Markham Napa Valley Vineyards, Merry Edwards, Nella Terra Cellars, Oxlee Graham, The Prisoner Wine Company, Sean Minor, Red Car, Tomorrow Cellars, Tongue Dancer Wines, Viansa, and Barber Lee Spirits, our guest distillery.

We welcomed over 200 guests to Roar & Pour. We look forward to bringing you another unique fundraising experience later this year, more news to come!
