SUPPORT THE ZOO
Donate to Win!
https://sfzoo.sfz-passport.sfzoo.org/packageDetails/53/keyword/Donations
For the rest of July, when you donate $50 and over to the Zoo, you will be entered into a special drawing to win a Zoo-themed swag gift box or a VIP tour of the Leanne B. Roberts African Savanna that includes a giraffe feeding! Just use the donate button below and you will be entered to win.
Some numbers to share...it costs $50 to feed our Komodo dragon for two weeks, $100 provides a day's worth of fresh food and enrichment activities for our endangered Mexican gray wolves, $250 feeds our pair of African lions for one month, $500 provides fresh fish for our rescued grizzly bear siblings for two weeks and $1,000 feeds our giraffe herd for one month.
As you are aware, the cost of goods has increased substantially, including the amount to purchase food items fed to our animal residents. As a non-profit organization, any donation helps us, especially since we provide only the freshest produce and proteins to ensure a healthy, nutritious diet.
Thank you, as always, for your support!

NEWS TO KNOW
National ZooKeeper Week
Of all the professions around, one job that is a big conversation starter is that of an animal care professional in a zoo or aquarium, also known as a zookeeper! In celebration of the individuals that devote their lives to the care and welfare of animals, advocate for conservation and educate the public, we recognize the dedication and passion of our own keepers, past and present.
The job of an animal keeper is hard work, and requires patience and experience as every individual animal they care for may require different needs. Daily care and feeding, maintaining a safe and healthy living environment, providing creative enrichment, conducting training and monitoring their health go hand-in-hand, as do observations and working collaboratively with veterinary and wellness staff. Many keepers also contribute scientifically, with findings that can be applied to understanding behavior of certain species, sharing and working in tandem with professionals from other zoos.
As part of National ZooKeeper Week, which takes place all week long, say hello to our hard-working animal care team this week!
100 Years at SF Zoo!
https://www.sfzoo.org/historic-sites-dentzel-carousel/
The Dentzel Carousel is one of the many historic treasures you can find at the Zoo and has been in place here since 1925, marking its existence at this location at 100 years! And it's looking pretty good for its age, having been built in 1921 it remains an amazing call-back to an era when carousels were hand-carved from wood and intricately painted and bejeweled. You can read the history of our carousel, located in the Eugene Friend Carousel Plaza on this dedicated webpage (https://www.sfzoo.org/historic-sites-dentzel-carousel/) .
In honor of our carousel's 100th year and in celebration of National Carousel Day on Friday, July 25th, we are offering special Buy One, Get One rides for Zoo Members, all day and as part of Sunset Fridays that evening!
This new milestone is a testament to how our carousel has touched so many lives over the time, with more than five million revolutions and counting since it was installed in 1925! Thanks to our many donors over the years who have supported several restoration efforts, and the generations of patrons and riders who have taken a "spin" on one of our colorful carousel animals!
BOGO for Members - New Dinosaur: Evolution
https://www.sfzoo.org/vr-experience-rides/
Members can see the newest virtual reality film experience with a Buy One, Get One free discount! This BOGO is good until the end of August by showing your Membership ID at the VR Zone.
Journey millions of years to the end of the Cretaceous Period to see dinosaurs like you’ve never seen before in Dinosaur: Evolution, (https://www.sfzoo.org/vr-experience-rides/) a sensory-loaded, immersive experience that goes beyond extinction. You’ll see as the dinosaurs’ final chapter unfolds, and who ultimately survives and flourishes in the aftermath of global devastation due to a cataclysmic asteroid impact.
Ultimately, Dinosaur: Evolution invites us to reflect on the fragility of our own species. Despite all our progress, we too may face an existential reckoning—this time one of our own making in the form of climate change.
