### Bayview Safety Swim & Splash Program Celebrates End of School Year
The
Bayview Safety Swim and Splash (https://t.e2ma.net/click/cwjqtj/wfcl20hc/s4k9st)
(BSSS) program celebrated the end of its spring program and school year with its Splash Bash community celebration at
Martin Luther King Jr. Pool (https://t.e2ma.net/click/cwjqtj/wfcl20hc/8wl9st)
last month. The event featured a skills showcase, as well as an open family swim with stand-up paddle boards, kayaks and more!
BSSS is a free learn-to-swim initiative for elementary students in the 94124 zip code. It has operated since 2022 in partnership with the Y of San Francisco at MLK Jr. Pool. The goal of the program is to ensure that neighborhood youth develop confidence in the water and acquire lifelong skills, including floating, breathing, and how to swim to safety if needed.
In 2024, the program added a new summer session to its normal spring and fall programming, serving 376 youth overall--a 71% increase from 2023--with over 160 achieving their water safety goals.
The program also aims to ensure that residents of Bayview-Hunters Point can enjoy the aquatic-oriented
India Basin Waterfront Park (https://t.e2ma.net/click/cwjqtj/wfcl20hc/opm9st)
to its fullest. For more information about the program, click the link below.

### Coyote Pupping Season in our Parks
As we hit the dog days of summer, it means that we're in the midst of coyote pupping season. While coyotes are generally wary of humans, parent coyotes may become territorial if you or your pet stumbles upon their den.
To foster a safe coexistence between yourself and our natural neighbors (https://t.e2ma.net/click/cwjqtj/wfcl20hc/gvp9st), please take the following precautions:
* Never feed coyotes or any wildlife
* Keep dogs on leashes in our parks, unless in a designated off-leash dog play area
* Only admire coyotes from a distance
If you encounter a coyote, slowly back away carrying any small children or pets. Do not run. You may also scare the coyote away by appearing large and making loud noises.
If you encounter a coyote or see someone putting out food for a coyote, report it to Animal Care and Control (ACC) at (415) 554-9400, or by email at noopener noreferrer (mailto:acc at sfgov.org).
For more information, visit ACC's coyote page at the link below.
