We honor all of you today on this National Philanthropy Day, for your generous support of the Zoo! By being a Zoo Member, a Guardian Member, through your visitation and your benevolent monetary and in-kind donations, you help us tremendously to continue our mission.

Your support allows us to continue to provide excellent animal care, protect and save wildlife, and connect and educate our youth with the wonders of wildlife. We do not say it enough, but we thank you wholeheartedly for your ongoing support!

Among our donors are those who have supported the Zoo for decades and those who are new to giving. On this National Philanthropy Day, we wanted to give a shout-out to some of our special donors!
Barry and Marie Lipman
Barry and Marie Lipman are passionate about wildlife and have supported the Zoo for decades. Their support has included the construction of the Lipman Family Lemur Forest, the Coquerel’s Sifaka habitat, the Barry and Marie Lipman Komodo Crossing, and the Lipman Family Madagascar Center. As a longtime Zoological Society Board Member and Emeritus Board Member, Mr. Lipman has been instrumental in bringing the plight of Madagascar to the forefront. He continues to share his passion for Madagascar’s wildlife and the ongoing need to save this biodiversity hotspot.
Connie and Bob Lurie
Connie and Bob Lurie have been dedicated Zoo supporters since the 1980s. As a strong believer in science education, Mrs. Lurie, who served as a Zoological Society Board Member and Emeritus Board Member, had a keen understanding of how important experiential education, such as seeing exotic animals up close, can be to young minds. In 2001, the Connie and Bob Lurie Education Center opened, allowing thousands of students and youth opportunities to enjoy hands-on learning, conduct children and adult workshops, and more. Mr. and Mrs. Lurie continue to support the Zoo in many ways, and love our Western lowland gorillas!
Gail Secchia
Gail Secchia has been a Zoo advocate for more than 30 years, having worked as a Zoo horticulturist, beautifying the grounds like no one before her. She is a longtime Docent volunteer, and spearheaded dozens of public programs, from Earth Day to climate change awareness activities. She funded Greenie’s Conservation Garden and even has a garden named after her: Gail’s Fragrance Garden, of which she is most proud. She is a key donor of the Connie and Bob Lurie Education Center and most recently, Gail worked collaboratively with San Francisco artist Henry Jackson as part of the inspiring Under the Canopy art installation.
