Hello Families,

We’re thrilled you’re considering Ruth Asawa School of the Arts, and we look forward to seeing you at auditions!

We want to remind families that the SFUSD application deadline is December 12th for students applying to Ruth Asawa School of the Arts and/or Lowell. Applying to our school is much simpler than people think, and our auditions are designed to be welcoming, supportive, and student-centered.

Ruth Asawa SOTA students come from every neighborhood, background, and level of prior training. What unites them is something simple: they’re curious, creative, and want to dive deeply into something they love.

How to Apply to Ruth Asawa School of the Arts

Step 1: Submit your SFUSD application by December 12, 2025, and add Ruth Asawa SOTA as one of your choices. Some departments (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1hwQqpXv4aAootjeMyJaaL3XmgMYQpS2RxGN3y_FxMZ0/edit?usp=sharing&mc_cid=708064fd48&mc_eid=UNIQID) also require submission of an audition assignment on December 12.

Step 2: Complete your audition assignment and prepare for your audition. Each department has simple guidelines to help students prepare. Check whether your student needs to submit an audition assignment (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1hwQqpXv4aAootjeMyJaaL3XmgMYQpS2RxGN3y_FxMZ0/edit?tab=t.0&mc_cid=708064fd48&mc_eid=UNIQID) by December 12 or prepare an assignment only for the audition on January 10, 2026.

Step 3: Attend an audition on January 10, 2026. Every applicant auditions. It’s warm, supportive, and focused on helping students show who they are and get to know the department. Audition timing and other details will be available on the school’s website on December 19, 2025.
