Join us for the 2025 Great California ShakeOut
https://www.shakeout.org/california/bayarea/
Just like you, we believe in preparedness, especially in the case of a major earthquake. As a member of your community, we are partnering with California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) during The Great California ShakeOut, which takes place the third week in October.
On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m., stop by SF Zoo's main guest parking lot to experience Cal OES's earthquake simulator trailer as part of the Great California ShakeOut Tour which offers a real-life sense of earthquake intensity—where you can experience actual shaking.
As part of the tour, meet representatives from Cal OES, where they will provide life-saving protective actions and preparedness information, so you can prepare for earthquakes, such as developing emergency plans at home, school and work. On October 16, Cal OES encourages all Californians to take part in the Great ShakeOut Drill on October 16, 2025 at 10:16 a.m. (PST) and join countless others as they practice the life-saving technique of Drop, Cover and Hold On. Learn more (https://www.shakeout.org/california/bayarea/) about The Great California ShakeOut and come by SF Zoo on Tuesday, October 14th. Parking is free for participants.

CONSERVATION
Gorillas on the Line Recap
In honor of International E-Waste Day on October 14th, we thought it would be a great time to celebrate our success with our 2025 Gorillas on the Line (GotL) campaign. This electronics recycling drive is a partnership between participating zoos to help save gorillas in the wild. GotL works with ECO-CELL (https://eco-cell.com/) , who tallies and recycles old electronic devices, with a portion of the funds generated through recycling going to AZA's Gorilla SAFE (Saving Animals From Extinction).
This year, we collected 288 devices, the second highest number since we started participating in the program seven years ago. This amounts to 160 lbs of electronics recycled, and of the 54 zoos that participated, we ranked at 21!
>From February to September of this year, guests, staff and volunteers could donate to specific collection boxes located around the Zoo. We also hosted collection drives, accounting for the majority of devices collected. Thank you to everyone who donated their phones, tablets, watches, MP3 players, and more to help this important cause.
Support Rhino Conservation

With Halloween around the corner, the American Association of Zoo Keepers San Francisco invites you to "Boo-ling" (bowling!) for Rhinos (BFR), on Sunday, October 19 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Presidio Bowl in San Francisco.
This ticketed event raises funds to support rhino and habitat conservation efforts with proceeds benefiting International Rhino Foundation, LEWA Wildlife Conservancy and Action for Cheetahs in Kenya, which shares a portion of its land mass with LEWA. Sanctuaries like these not only save rhinos (and cheetahs), but entire ecosystems.
Tickets can be purchased via thislink (https://givebutter.com/zRPh3N) . The evening includes pizza, soft drinks, a silent auction, a Spooktacular costume contest, and of course, bowling! Children under 12 are free with paid adult admission.
Come help AAZKSF strike out extinction.
