Hello 8th Grade Families!

My name is Sarah Ballard-Hanson and I am the proud principal at Thurgood
Marshall Academic High School. As you begin thinking about the best fit for
your child’s high school experience, I’d like to invite you to take a
closer look at Thurgood Marshall, a true gem of the southeast.

At Thurgood Marshall, we are laser focused on our mission: ensuring that
each and every student gains the skills they need to go on to lead healthy,
productive, and choice-filled lives and to graduate with a plan for their
future.

Here are a few highlights about our school:

   -

Stable, Experienced Staff: This is my sixth year at Marshall and most of
our teachers and staff have been at Marshall for many years. We were also
fully staffed at the start of the last two school years.
   -

Small-School Community: We take time to know our students well and
provide individualized support and programming to meet their unique
   needs.
   -

Strong Counseling and College & Career Center: Students visit colleges,
universities, and trade schools each year, and every senior takes Senior
Seminar to get hands-on support with college applications, financial
   aid, and career planning.
   -

Project-Based Learning: Instruction is driven by authentic, hands-on
projects that connect academic content to real-world challenges, fostering
   critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity.
   -

Vibrant Student Life: With over 25 student-led clubs - and club time
built into the school day - every student can find a place to connect and
   lead.
   -

Beautiful Remodeled Campus: All of our classrooms and community spaces
are newly updated with state-of-the-art technology.
   -

Leader in the Community School Model: We partner with community
organizations to provide wraparound support for students and families,
including a family emergency fund, clothing pantry, and access to a free
   grocery store.

We’d love for you to visit and see our amazing school for yourself! You and
your student are welcome to come for a student-led tour at any time, no
RSVP required.
