Dia De Los Muertos Nov. 1 & 2
Each year, November 1st marks the beginning of Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, in Mexico. The holiday is a day of remembrance for deceased loved ones, including family, friends and animals, including pets that have crossed the rainbow bridge.
At the Zoo, all guests are welcome to visit our ofrenda and partake in special arts and crafts at the Leaping Lemur Café. You can add your own photos, flowers, or art to the ofrenda, a decorated altar that serves as a symbolic portal designed to honor and welcome the spirits of departed loved ones back to the world of the living for a visit on November 1 & 2.
The ofrenda will be on display through November 2nd.

NEWS TO KNOW
Update on Cecil and Times You Can View Him
Our new male silverback, Cecil, made his official debut last Saturday, and we're glad some of you had a chance to see him in person! As the acclimation process is still on-going, we wanted to inform you that you may, on occasion, not see Cecil or the females outside in their outdoor habitat. At this time, Cecil will have daily access to the yard from morning until 2 to 3 p.m., and can opt to stay inside during this time, or venture outside. Meanwhile, the females can also opt to be outdoors, without him. This will go on until the group has established their places within their new family.
Introducing a new gorilla to an existing group is complex, as they work to get used to one another and how they will all fit into a new family dynamic. This may include challenging one another and shows of dominance, which cause confrontations. Overall, the introductions have mostly gone well, as we allow the group the time they need. Thank you for understanding and we appreciate your on-going patience.
