Your weekly scoop on San Francisco parks

### Highlights, News & Announcements

### Stern Grove Playground Transformed into Tree House Village

Children and families in San Francisco's Sunset District now have a new reason to explore the outdoors with the reopening of the
Sigmund Stern Grove (https://t.e2ma.net/click/o9hz1j/wfcl20hc/odhl5u)
Playground (630 Sloat Boulevard) following
a major renovation (https://t.e2ma.net/click/o9hz1j/wfcl20hc/45hl5u).

Nestled among the majestic trees of Stern Grove just off Sloat Boulevard, a reimagined playground transports visitors into a woodland-inspired play village, complete with structures modeled after primitive treehouses. The new design, crafted with input from the community, invites kids to climb, explore, and engage in imaginative play surrounded by the park's natural beauty.

The renovation includes brand-new play equipment, such as tree-like towers, climbing nets, timber log features, and swings. The project also brings upgraded surfacing, improved pathways and lawn areas, and refreshed landscaping. Just north of the main playground, a new nature exploration zone promotes unstructured, outdoor discovery and a deeper connection to nature.

The project is part of Let'sPlaySF!, a public-private partnership that pairs public funds with private support to renovate 13 playgrounds chosen by a citizen task force. With the completion of Stern Grove Playground, 12 of the 13 sites have now been fully renovated by Rec and Park--bringing the City one step closer to its goal of ensuring every child, in every neighborhood, has access to safe, inclusive, and inspiring play spaces.

The $4.1 million revitalization of Stern Grove Playground, which began construction in August 2024, was made possible in large part thanks to generous contributions to Let'sPlaySF! from the Hellman Foundation, Kaiser Permanente, the Koret Foundation, San Franciscans for Sports and Recreation, the Lisa and John Pritzker Family Fund, Jackie and Joby Pritzker, and many others. # Share Your Input on Sunset Dunes: Survey & Open House on September 27

We're inviting the community to share feedback on the current park features through our
Sunset Dunes survey (https://t.e2ma.net/click/o9hz1j/wfcl20hc/wfsl5u), which is live and open through the end of the year. Let us know what's working, what's not, and what you'd love to see more of at Sunset Dunes.

We will use your feedback to keep improving the current park experience and for future planning purposes. This 2025 community engagement process, along with site feasibility studies, will support a visioning and planning process to begin in 2026.

Additionally, we will be hosting an open house on Saturday, September 27 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sunset Dunes and Taraval Street. It will feature live music, activities such as Zumba and Trivia, giveaways, and an opportunity to help shape the future of the park. For more information, click the link below.

# Nature's Lawn Mowers Return to Francisco Park

The goats have returned to
Francisco Park (https://t.e2ma.net/click/o9hz1j/wfcl20hc/s0tl5u)! Not to
(e)scapegoat these baaahhd kids (https://t.e2ma.net/click/o9hz1j/wfcl20hc/8sul5u)
from
City Grazing (https://t.e2ma.net/click/o9hz1j/wfcl20hc/olvl5u), but rest assured they're secure in the park. These creatures are adept at navigating hilly and unstable ground, proving an efficient and environmentally friendly solution to invasive weeds. They'll be out munching on the park's outskirts for roughly two weeks. A special thanks to the
Francisco Park Conservancy (https://t.e2ma.net/click/o9hz1j/wfcl20hc/4dwl5u)

# Help Shape the Future of San Francisco Government

San Francisco government includes nearly 150 advisory boards and commissions.

Prop E, approved by the voters last November, created a task force to review the City's advisory boards and commissions and make recommendations to the Mayor and Board of Supervisors about opportunities to modify, consolidate, or eliminate them.

The Commission Streamlining Task Force is meeting now through the end of the year to develop these recommendations, and they want your feedback.

Here's what to know:

  * The task force meets every 1st and 3rd Wednesday at 1 p.m. in City Hall (1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place) in Room 408. Meetings are open to the public and streamed live on WebEx.
  * You can learn when the task force will review and make recommendations on each advisory board or commission by going to the task force's website and clicking on the 'Planned Decision Calendar' in the Resources section.
  * Submit written public comment to the task force by emailing commission.streamlining at sfgov.org (mailto:commission.streamlining at sfgov.org) prior to the meeting. Comments will be posted on the task force's website with contact information redacted. You can also give public comment live during the meeting, either in-person or on WebEx.

Together, we can improve the administration of good government and create a better-run San Francisco. For more information and other resources, click the link below.

### Coyote Pupping Season in our Parks

We're in the midst of coyote pupping season. While coyotes are generally wary of humans, parent coyotes may become territorial if you or your pet stumbles upon their den.

To foster a safe coexistence between yourself and our natural neighbors (https://t.e2ma.net/click/o9hz1j/wfcl20hc/gryl5u), please take the following precautions:

  * Never feed coyotes or any wildlife
  * Keep dogs on leashes in our parks, unless in a designated off-leash dog play area
  * Only admire coyotes from a distance

If you encounter a coyote, slowly back away carrying any small children or pets. Do not run. You may also scare the coyote away by appearing large and making loud noises.

If you encounter a coyote or see someone putting out food for a coyote, report it to Animal Care and Control (ACC) at (415) 554-9400, or by email at noopener noreferrer (mailto:acc at sfgov.org).

For more information, visit ACC's coyote page at the link below.
