February 2026 Budget Status

Overall ability to stick to the budget continues to be "OK but not great".
This will change after March.  Also no "how far ahead are we?" summary on
this one because it's late and a bunch of stuff happened in March.

Special item:
- I got $3,800 back from having accidentally double-paid for room and board
with F's horsing; this not only is a great boost to the horsing category
for future large items, but it means that the monthly expenses there will
be ~$400 lower going forward

The usual list:
- Internet continues to be too large.  I have a plan for how to fix it but
it's a complex plan and the shit show that was Feb and Mar didn't leave me
the mental space to execute on it.
- $40 over on pet food; no good reason
- $60 over on junk food; no good reason
- $400 over on groceries; we did costco and TJs and I took out $300 for
future farmer's market
- $170 over on computer stuff; had to scramble to replace Kai's phone, also
TurboTax
- $70 over on home maintenance, mostly on RA's chair
- $140 over on gifts because V-day and I hadn't built up a proper buffer yet
- $140 over on Kai hobbies because markers, but that category really
doesn't have enough history to be properly budgeted yet
- $1,000 over on helping Jen because therapy
- Unbudgeted: $3,000 to Steph
