Hi everyone!

I am SO excited to welcome everyone back and get this year started! I
wanted to give you a quick look at what students can expect during our
first day and first week in Costume & Fashion Design.

First things first....where should students go tomorrow? Our original
classroom (and homeroom) is *Room 342*, and our new additional
classroom is *Room
334*. Both rooms will be open tomorrow morning because I know everyone will
want to see the new space! Students are welcome to come to either
classroom, and we’ll direct everyone from there once we decide which room
we’re gathering in. We’ll most likely end up together in our homeroom, 342,
but 334 is a little easier for our new students to find, so please don’t
worry about choosing the “right” room. We’ll be looking out for everyone!

We’ll be on campus beginning at 8:00 AM, so if your student arrives early,
they are more than welcome to come hang out in either classroom, settle in,
explore the spaces, and greet their classmates.

Our first day will really be about getting to know each other and getting
comfortable in our new classrooms—and yes, I say classrooms plural because
even our old room has been redone, so it feels new too! We’ll introduce
students to our new Artist in Residence, Natalie, explore the spaces, and
do some fun getting-to-know-you activities. Since our first day together is
short, we’re keeping it light and welcoming.

A few other things to know:

   - Syllabus: I’ll send the syllabus to parents on Tuesday. I know
students and families receive a lot of information on the first day, so I’d
rather give everyone a chance to settle in before adding one more syllabus
   to the pile. :)
   - Welcome Letter & Class Contract: I’ll also send my welcome letter this
week, along with a contract for students and parents to review and sign
regarding classroom expectations, rules, and important performance
   schedules.
   - School Supplies: Students should have the supplies from the list I
sent this summer by next week. If purchasing any of those supplies is
difficult financially—or for any other reason—please reach out to me. I can
   help!
   - Our First Project: We’ll spend the beginning of the week getting to
know one another before jumping into our first two week group project on
   Thursday.
   - Our First Field Trip: We’ll be heading to SCRAP for our first field
trip of the year! Students will shop with their groups for unconventional
materials that they’ll transform into garments. I’ll be sending the field
trip permission slip home and by email as soon as I receive the final admin
approval/signature, so please keep an eye out for that.

I also know that change can be hard, and there is quite a bit of change
happening in our department this year—new spaces, new students, new faces,
and new department (!!). My hope is that our returning students come in
excited and ready to help welcome their new classmates and make them feel
like part of our community from day one. We have such a special opportunity
to build this year together, and I want everyone to feel like they belong
here.

More details will be coming soon, but for now, we mostly want students to
come in ready to meet one another, explore the new spaces, and have some
fun.

I am SO excited for this year and can’t wait to see everyone!

Alex
