We just kicked off the summer season with an all staff retreat at our Midpines Basecamp. The staff is spoiled with the chef! I personally loved her daal. Summer Courses Kick Off

School IS OUT! ✌️

And the High Sierra season is IN. We’ve sent out our first expeditions at the start of June, and have already welcomed home six crews! At the end of their course, students have the option to write reflection letters. We love to get a sneak peak into what goes on out there.

Here’s what Holden wrote. “This course pushed me in all the best ways. Coming away from it, I feel so refreshed. My physical ability has increased, my mental toughness and ability shot way up, and I feel so much more connected to nature. I learned so much stuff on this trip, from wilderness survival to life lessons… I feel so refreshed and almost like a different person after the trip. I realize the only limits I have are the ones I set in my brain.”

OBCA Is Recruiting New Board Members

Outward Bound California is now accepting applications for our Board of Directors. As we continue to grow our impact across California, we are seeking leaders who believe in our mission to spark lifelong growth through challenge—outside.

We are especially interested in building a board that reflects the diversity of the students and communities we serve, bringing a range of lived experiences, skills, and backgrounds to our leadership.

Please submit your application by July 15. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and our goal is to welcome the 2026 Board Class in September.

2025 Impact Report

This year, 3,521 young people left their screens behind and hiked across the Sierra, climbed in Joshua Tree and climbed the disco tower in San Francisco. That meant 106,488 screen-free hours!
