Tax Season is Here!

Dear Friend,

Tax deadlines are arriving quickly and many individuals and families are reviewing their finances, organizing documents and thinking ahead about how they can plan more effectively for the year to come.

Charitable giving is one way many zoo supporters prepare for future tax seasons while making a meaningful impact today. By making a gift to the San Francisco Zoo & Gardens now, you can help support exceptional animal care, conservation programs and educational experiences while positioning your philanthropy to potentially provide tax benefits for the coming year.

Here are a few to ideas to consider:
* Traditional gift by check or credit card – a simple and effective way to provide immediate support.
* Appreciated stock and securities - donating stock directly to the zoo may allow you to avoid capital gains taxes on the appreciated value while receiving a charitable deduction for the full fair market value of the gift.
* Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) – if you have an established DAF, you may recommend a grant to the San Francisco Zoo & Gardens, allowing you to support wildlife conservation with funds you already set aside for charitable giving.
* Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) – supporters age 70 ½ or older may also consider a QCD from their Individual Retirement Account (IRA) which may count toward your required minimum distribution while excluding the amount from your taxable income.
* Bequests and Estate Gifts – tax planning also includes thinking about long-term philanthropy. We invite you to learn about the zoo’s planned giving program, the Monarch Society, for options such as bequests, beneficiary designations or other estate gifts.

Our team is happy to help you explore these options to plan ahead to ensure that wildlife conservation and animal welfare will continue for generations to come. Contact us at development at sfzoo.org (mailto:mailto:development at sfzoo.org) for more information.

Donors should consult their own tax advisors regarding the deductibility of their contributions.

Thank you for supporting the mission of the San Francisco Zoo & Gardens.

With appreciation,
