4. Would you move while pregnant or move after babies are born?
--------------------------------------------------------
Marbuchanan - 10/2/2011 7:22 pm
I'm going to try to make this short and simple but I
really need some advice about this. We want to move
into a bigger place closer to my husband's work in San
Jose. The issue is that I don't want to change my
doctor and want to deliver my babies at CPMC. Would it
be safe if I live in Peninsula and have to drive an
hour or so to my hospital? I'm really worried about
long-distance drive in case of an emergency. Should I
just wait with my move after babies are born? I
appreciate your feedback.

We lived in Oakland and delivered at CPMC. We had a
medical emergency that was caught early (delivered at
28 weeks.) In retrospect, even if my water had broken
at home rather than at the hospital we still would have
had PLENTY of time to get to the hospital. After they
were born we had to deal with a move - twice! Once
from Oakland into hospital housing while they were in
the NICU and then from hospital housing to Sausalito
the week before they came home. Both moves were not in
the presence of babies as they still lived in the NICU.
You have to follow your gut with regard to how far
from the hospital you're willing to live, but I will
say that I could have NEVER handled a move once the
babies were home with us. It was stressful enough
trying to do it while they were in the hospital (and I
was pumping, pumping, pumping, recovering from
C-section, etc....) Good luck. It's a tough decision
and a personal one. (But since you asked, personally
I'd move now rather than later.) : )

I moved after babies were born - also preemies. They
were 4 months when wemoved and I spent my entire
pregnancy in the hospital. So, it is doable. We lived
in Redwood City and delivered at CPMC, then moved to
the cityafter. Whatever you decide - you will make it
work.May you have a healthy and term delivery.Best,

miriamg - 10/2/2011 7:14 am
Hi -Of course we should have done this over the summer,
but now that the rainy season is approaching we really
need to get someone to fix some water damage we had
last year, ensure we don't get more this year, and
paint the house. Any recommendations
appreciated!Thanks,Miriam
