maternity clothes to women in need. I am new in San
Francisco and not familiar with the different charities

3. vacation pay for nanny

When we hired our nanny, we agreed to paid holidays and
2 weeks of paid vacation (we normally take a trip in
the summer and she gets full pay for that time, and
takes a trip with her own family). This year, we would
like to take a trip in December to see family for 4
days (not holiday days), but we're not sure what's fair
in regard to our nanny. She will be missing essentially
3 half days and one full day of work. Are we expected
to pay her for these days anyway? Full or partial pay?
Or is it reasonable for us to just go and give her the
days off without pay, since she gets 2 weeks in the
summer already? What have other people done? Thanks for
any thoughts or experience.

We had an agreement with our nanny that if we went on a
trip outside of her vacation time that if I could find
her work within the twin community during my absence I
didn't have to pay her because the other family would,
but if I couldn't find her work then I did have to pay
her myself. It was taxing on her to jump in with
another family on short notice and not knowing much
about their routine (and she got a parking ticket once,
I felt horrible) so in the end I stopped "loaning" her
out and just paid her when we were gone. It happened
far more often than I thought it would, but it really
seemed the only fair way to do it. She was depending
on us for income and we couldn't just not pay her from
time to time. She was such a great nanny that I just
chalked it up to being part of what it takes to keep
great help.

We set up our contract at the beginning of the year so
our nanny gets off all the holidays I have off (I'm a
government employee and have a lot), and then she gets
7 vacation days of her choice and 4 of our choice. She
has used up her days, and we will use up our days this
month. But then we are traveling at Thanksgiving and
she'll have 3 extra days off. Our nanny suggested that
we trade it for babysitting on weekend nights, a
proposition I gladly accepted. She's also watching our
dog for free when we go away this month. So we will
continue to pay her regular salary, and she's going to
make up the days she should have been working with
extra babysitting/dogsitting.

Hi Lisa!I think the City Select is heavier when
configured with two seats. We have the City Mini double
which is a side by side.What we have done for travel is
use two single Maclaren Triumphs. They are very light
(12 lbs) but still have good storage underneath. I've
actually got three preschoolers, so we do the two
umbrella strollers and and two Ergos when we travel. I
bought a set of those connectors, but was really
disappointed. They make the strollers too wide to fit
through a standard doorway and it's not that easy to
keep them even with each other while pushing so they
sometimes lock up.Maclaren has an outlet on eBay

For travel, we've used two $20 umbrella strollers.My
husband rigged each one with a luggage strap so when
the kids wanted to walk, we just put them over our
shoulders like a golf bag. Great for large amusement
park-type places. And you check them at the gate on an
airplane.It was SO convenient!! Just an idea.--- On

We also did a version of CIO. Here are thoughts.1. My
daughter was done first and only took a couple of days.
She is still a great sleeper.2. My son was waking MORE
frequently at 4 1/2 adjusted months than say a month
before he hit this age. So, I called his Dr first.3.
The nurse advisor told me to make sure he was getting
enough to drink during the day. My milk supply, in
fact- couldn't keep up with the last feeding of day.
So, we gave him a bottle (as well as my daughter;
although she drank less) of formula after BFing right
before bed.4. My husband managed CIO. I couldn't
listen to their cries and they smelled milk when I came
into room. He would let my son cry 10 min and then go
in and sooth him and replace binkie. This went of for
two-four nights before my son got the idea. He is also
