1. Amazing Nanny Available - Ana Higgins
--------------------------------------------------------
megan_m_roberts - 10/30/2011 9:08 pm
It is with many tears that I post this listing. We
are moving out of the city and therefore letting our
nanny go. Ana Higgins has been with our family for
2.5 years. She started with us when the twins were 5
months old and they will be 3 this November. I have so
many positive things to say about her and nothing
negative. She is the most gentle, loving and patient
person. She truly treats the kids as if they were her
own. Family is extremely important to Ana and you can
see that in her words and actions with the children.
She is fun, energetic and creative but while being
aware, thoughtful, and safety minded. Her demeanor is
calm, happy and very hard-working. She frequently
does "extras" around the home, like folding my laundry
(not just the kids), cleans up after my meals, cleans
the kids room, etc all without me asking. She also did
all the cooking for them (excellent food that my
husband and I wanted to be eating), taught them
manners, self-respect, respect for others, and potty
trained them with ease. She is very focused on age
appropriate learning, milestones, etc and works with
the kids in a fun, simple manner to get them to start
rolling over, walking, counting, signing ABC's, etc.
Ana also is great about finding activities in the
neighborhood for the kids, whether they are infants or
toddlers, which are free. We were fortunate enough to
have a great playground and recreation center just two
blocks from our home. Through Ana, she helped our
family become part of that community. We met several
families and continue to have friendships with them all
because of Ana. Whenever we go to that park strangers
will come up to us and gush about how wonderful Ana is
with our kids, how she is very involved with them and
how loving she is with them. Ana taught us so much
about parenting. She taught us to not stress but
rather to enjoy them and be patient. We were
constantly looking to her for advice due to her
experience with twins. Ana is ALWAYS on time (and
sometimes early), never missed a day of work, is
respectful of our home and our belongings, is
respectful of our wishes in terms of parenting/sleep
schedules/food/safety, etc. The twins absolutely
LOVE her. They are excited to see her on Monday
morning, ask for her when we are away on vacation and
even sometimes have a hard time (tears, lots of hugs &
kisses) seeing her leave at night/Friday's. Ana is
originally from Brazil but speaks perfect English.
She has been caring for twins, of all ages, for over 13
years. She is still in contact with many of the
families so that both parties can continue to be part
of each other's lives. The only thing that makes me
feel good about letting Ana go is knowing that another
deserving family will gain an amazing support system in
Ana. Please feel free to call or email me with any
questions. 415-609-6155 or
megan_m_roberts@yahoo.com She is available starting
in mid-October. Ana can be reached

wendy_cedron - 10/30/2011 7:53 pm
Does anyone know of a good/reasonable dog walking
service? I can not justify paying a dog walker more
then the nanny! We really just need someone a couple
hours a week, any one know a reliable neighborhood kid
that we might be able to count on? Please advise.

5. Cold-weather snow buntings
--------------------------------------------------------
carogamse - 10/30/2011 10:28 am
Hi! Does anyone have 2 waterproof buntings (snow
outfits with hoods) in sizes 6 month or 6-9 months that
I could borrow/buy for my twins? We would need them
from Dec. 17-Dec. 28. We went to the snow closet but
they didn't have the right sizes. Mittens would be
great too!Thanks a lot.

Thank you so VERY much Cat!!!!!! As previously noted,
I'll see someone on Monday, but b/c I was so concerned
the last couple days that I just froze. I spent all of
Fri & Sat starved and actually lost about 1lbs, which I
know is NOT good. Also, I think my blood sugar was
very low b/c I was feeling all the symptoms . . . I
felt terrible all day yesterday. You're feedback is so
HELPFUL--it will really help me get through today and
tomorrow morning. I really, really appreciate your
feedback and time . . . I know you, like all mons, are
busy and spare time is very valuable.

Oh my goodness, please don't stop eating! That isn't
good for anyone. I'm sure a few days more of eating the
"wrong" way isn't going to do any serious harm to you
or the babies. Make sure you are eating nutritiously
and as long as you just try to eliminate unnecessary
sugar and always have some protein and carbs together,
you'll be fine. Good luck tomorrow!

Hi There - I had GD too and learned that you can kind
of experiment to see how your body reacts to
everything. At first I was more strict, trying to eat
only the allowable foods (eggs & cheese & whole wheat
toast gets old for breakfast). Then I would add in a
few things and found out that I could actually have
fruit with most meals and other treats which made a
vast improvement in my mental state (I love a wide
variety of food and really love sugary stuff). Also,
and not that I'm promoting gaming the system, ok, well,
maybe I am, but I found that if I took my blood sugar,
then had a small amount of sugary vice (for me it was
chocolate milk usually), my sugar would be back to
normal by the time I had to test it again assuming I
otherwise ate a normal GD diet following my treat.
Just helped me keep my sanity and overall my blood
sugar level was at or below the level they wanted it
at. Feel free to email me if you have more specific
questions or want to hear more ways to keep sane with
GD.Kristen
