our boys are happy as long as we're sitting in the
playpen with them, but the minute we leave the play pen
or the room, they freak out. they've been doing this
for a few months now. are yours happy to play on their
own for some time? or what can we do to make them more
independent?

2. Recommendation for UCSF ENT

khofland01 - 11/7/2011 9:53 am
Hello,I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good
Ear Nose and Throat doctor affiliated with UCSF Medical
Center. This is for an adult, not a child. Also, if
they specialize in hearing loss, that would be
great!thank you,Kim Hofland

Symbio presentsEncouraging Developmentally Useful
PlayParents know that children learn through play but
how does this happen? What are they learning, what are
the lessons of each age and period in development, and
what is the role of play in this process? Is there such
a thing as the wrong kind of play and can too much, or
too little play ever have a negative impact? We'll
tackle these questions as well as common concerns
involving sharing, discipline and possession that often
come up in discussions of play habits and
practices.Presented by SymbioNoelle Cochran, PSYDNoelle

Congratulations on the birth of your twins! I don't
know much other than the more you pump, the more you
produce. But, here are a few ideas to at least make
the pumping process easier: (1) rent a pump from your
hospital. If you are at CPMC, Newborn Connections
rents hospital grade pumps. They are stronger, quieter
and better than the Pump In Style and other portable
models. (2) get the bra that allows hands-free pumping
(a life saver), (3) there are teas you can buy at Whole
Foods that are supposed to help with 'mother's milk' (I
would check with your MD first, especially if your
little ones are in NICU, (4) pump after they breast
feed (it makes for a loooong session but I always found
that I milk to spare. I hope some of this helps. All
the best to you and your family

The one thing that made the biggest difference for me
was wearing a handsfree bra and massaging and
compressing my breasts the entire time I pumped. The
difference was dramatic. Here's a link to a great
technique demo

Congrats on your twins. You are in for a joyous
ride! The advice below is great. There are a few things
suggested to me by the Lactation Consultant at UCSF
that were not listed:*sleep* fenugreek* drink tons of
water (I did this anyway, but don't see it mentioned
already.)I delivered at 31 weeks, and was pumping
(unsuccessfully for the most part) around the clock in
the first couple of weeks. When I reviewed my well
documented pumping schedule with the Lactation
Consultant, her first question was about when I was
sleeping. As soon as I "let go" a bit, and allowed
myself to get one 5-6 hour stretch of sleep a night, my
milk came in abundance. This is also the time I
started taking fenugreek supplement, so not sure how
much it helped. Delivering twins takes a toll on the
body, and sleep will help it heal faster. Of course,
delivering early (and by c-section) is an added stress,
so you need the time to regenerate.Once the twins came
home from NICU (for me four weeks after delivery), a
long stretch of sleep was harder. The way I managed
was my husband handled the first feeding of the morning
with bottles. After a five hour stretch of sleep, I
would wake an hour before the twins, pump immediately
(with hospital grade pump), and then eat breakfast. By
the time they woke up, I had enough milk again to feed
them. This milk was used for the next morning's
bottles. (I handled the 4 to 5 a.m. feeding solo-
without any diaper changes or anything- so my husband
could get a long stretch of sleep too.)Good
luck!Trish----- Original Message ----- From: "sfbamob"
