Below is a message from Pro Au Pair - they are an au
pair agency that specialize in au pairs with
certifications. We used their services to find our au
pair (she arrived when our boys were 3 months old) and
we couldn't be happier with her or with the experience
we had with Pro Au Pair. Susan Asay is the owner, and a
really great resource. We have two pediatric nurses (25
and 24) with NICU and multiple experience from Austria
avaliable to start in January 2012, and also a Midwife
(25) with MA degree and multiple experience from Poland
to start in December. Cost all in is average $10/h for
45 hours a child care, these are all professional
AuPairs with a degree.
http://proaupair.com/german-au-pair-candidates/I'm
happy to answer any questions re: finding the right au
pair and what to expect from the experience.

Hi, we're thinking about going on a beach vacation in
April. Any suggestions for all inclusive resorts in
Mexico, or vacation rentals in Mexico or Kauai? We
have twin 3 yr old boys and a 1.5 yr old. I'm also
worried that after 2 days of sitting on the beach the
resort vacation may get old, so any suggestions for
places where we might have a chance at seeing mayan
ruins or something other than beach but not having to
rent a minivan would be welcomed. also any other
vacation destination suggestions are most welcome.
Walking distance and having beachside places would be a
priority as just getting into and out of a car w/ the 3
is a challenge.Thanks.Denitza

Hi,Does anyone know of a sleep consultant other than
Angelique Millet? Thinking we might try to get someone
in to help us sort out some sleep issues before they
get worse. I like Angelique, but just want to see who
else is out there, as well. Thanks!Lisa

I think thats normal. We have a fenced off safe
playroom area and my 15 month old twins freak out if we
leave the room. they do play independently for
stretches at a time, but we need to be in the room.

Our twin boys (also 13 mo.!) are the SAME WAY!! It's
really stressful. They want someone with them
constantly and it's hard to even stand up and get a
drink of water for me.The bigger boy grabbs toys, bites
and pushes too. The litter one tries to fight back.
Sometimes he sees his bother coming and just drops his
toy and runs away. It's sad to see. And I know the
bigger boy doesn't mean to hurt his brother. I'm an
only child so sibling complexities are....complicated
for me to solve.I have found that getting another adult
to take one of the boys, and me go with the other
mellows them out A LOT and that they actually play by
themselves calmly for longer (like 10 min. as opposed
to 45 seconds). The bummer is, I need a break, too,
and it's challenging to weigh my need for a break with
their need to have important one on one time with an
adult, a brake from eachother, mommy and me time, etc.
So vital at this age...sigh....I'm very interested in
what others have to say about this too.-Darca

The moment i start to feel like i am coming down with

ton of water or hot tea, and get a full night's sleep.

Definitely drink a lot of water and invest in a
hands-free pumping bra - the Simple Wishes brand is by
far the best I think
(http://www.amazon.com/Simple-Wishes-Pumping-Bustier-Medela/dp/B003Y01MOG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1320773598&sr=8-2).Also,
my understanding is that it is frequency, not length of
time per session, that stimulates milk production. My
lactation consultant counseled me at the beginning to
pick a day to just hook up whenever i had the chance -
5 or 10 minutes here or there in addition to your 8
full sessions. I'm sure that sounds impossible to fit
in, but it helped me.Finally, I know that whenever I
eat a huge meal (full of protein - usually meat) I seem
to produce more milk the next morning. So I've always
assumed more protein/more food = better production.And
try to get some sleep if you can. That helps a ton.Best
of luck to you and congratulations!

It took me 6 weeks before my milk came in full force.
I was relentless. (mine were 28 weekers).Key things for
me:1) pump every 2-3 hours and/or after every feed2)
drink 32 oz of water at every pump3) Gaia brand
lactation/milk supplements were awesome as were
Motherlove brand (can't remember the exact product
name)4) sleep when you can. I pumped more after a long
5 hour stretch of sleep.5) Eat well and often! whole
foods-- bone broths were awesome. Oatmeal for bfast
every day helped my supply a lot, coconut butter and
oil, greens, meats, whole grains.6) Hot compresses for
your breasts 10 min before you pump. Hot shower before
you pump worked too. (I bought these compresses
specifically for this (they could be used hot or
cold)). Massaging helped a lot.7) I found that my milk
would let down twice in 1 pumping session IF... I
drank that huge cup of water as I started pumping---
the 1st let down would happen and then I would continue
pumping for 5 min and the 2nd let down would happen. I
think it had to do with the water I drank at the
beginning of the pump.8) Mothers Milk Tea round the
clock.Good luck!

I would second everything that has been said so far.
Regarding the supplement - there is "More Milk Plus"
which is an expensive supplement, but some recommend
it. Also, you may want to discuss lecithin with a
lactation consultant (I don't think it stimulates milk
production, but it helps with plugged ducts, which are
oh so painful).I also recommend either buying a pumping
bra, or just cutting holes into an existing bra you
have. But make sure it's the right size for your
current budy - I made the mistake of taking an old,
tight sports bra, which held the pump in very nicely,
but because it was 2 sizes too small, it put too much
pressure on some parts of my breast, which caused the
plugged ducts).I got a recommendation to eat a lot of
pasta, and it seemed like after every feast of mac and
cheese my production went way up.I heard that in the
Asian culture, rice is recommended for milk
production.Lastly, there is a drug called domperidone.
I have not tried it, but considered it. It works for
some. My lactation consultant recommended taking a
prolactin blood test (since domperidone helps with the
production of this hormone), to see if a low level of
prolactin may be the cause of low milk supply. My level
was normal, so I didn't go for the drug (it is
controversial, though, so you may want to do some
research to make sure you're comfortable with it).Don't
give up! I had no milk for several weeks, and for the
first 4 months, had minimal milk (just an ounce or two
per pumping session in total for both sides), which was
very frustrating. I am now up to 2-4 ounces per pumping
session, but I am so glad I can do that for the babies.
Our boys are 5 months, they went until 38wks 7 days,
and although the pumping is a lot of work, it is worth
it.Also, I've found that one of our boys had a decent
latch and the other just couldn't get the hang of it.
So I stopped frustrating me and him, and just relied on
giving him the pumped milk (and putting him on the
breast for the closeness). And the funny thing - now,
for the past 2 weeks, at 5 months age, he learned how
to nurse!!One last thing, when I stopped trying to
tandem nurse, I've found more comfortable positions
(like laying on my side, in bed, and nursing just one),
which was very helpful. Experiment with what works for
you!Lucia

also, a singleton-mom friend of mine sent me some stuff
a while back - hope it might help you. i've pasted her
email below. best, jen .....I just wanted to share a
couple of breastfeeding resources with you because they
have been truly eye-opening for me. I received so much
misinformation when I was nursing our first child that
it's a wonder she and I had such a lengthy nursing
relationship. I've been searching for and reading up on
breastfeeding because I want this next child and I to
have a smoother and more informed start. The
Breastfeeding Mother's Guide to Making More Milk by
Diana West is more of a troubleshooting guide, but I
think it's appropriate for any nursing mother. I looked
in the section specifically on multiples, and the
author suggests Mothering Multiples by Karen Gromada.
Karen also has a website. The Newman Breastfeeding
Clinic & Institute is the Canadian resource I mentioned
yesterday. He has some helpful print-outs and videos on
his site. KellyMom has also become an online resource
that many mothers refer to......

thinking about other things, I never can pump out as
