Does anyone know a great lawyer who has experience
dealing with nanny issues, where the family has a
contract with the nanny, but then discover serious
issues and need to terminate the nanny earlier than
scheduled?

I think that's right. I just hired someone (yesterday)
for $35/hr, which was the highest rate I came across,
but that doesn't mean others don't have $45/hr rates.
Perhaps some of the higher rate individuals have more
credentials (eg, RN, experience w/ special needs, etc).
This is my first time hiring a night nanny. My twins
are scheduled for delivery on mid-jan. we did it solo
w/ our first daughter and can appreciate the need for
help with two:-)!!!The person I hired has 14 yrs
overall experience and several of those yrs are with
twins. She has excellent references, all vaccines, bk
ground check, infant & child cpr cert, etc. She is not
an RN nor a lactation consultant, though she is going
to help me nurse-- her lactation experience is based on
job and personal experience. Hope this helps. Sent from

$45 sounds high but you are in the range. We paid in
the 30s for ours and one was incredibly trained - had
every credential you might imagine. And as someone
already mentioned - she was worth every penny and is
still with us some days and nights because we love her
so!Margaret

We paid about $30 but we had 7 day a week for 10 hours
a night and had several different people so that all
days were covered. Its the best money we ever spent and
I still miss them on certain nights and our twins just
turned 2!

We used two different people in late 2009/early 2010
for $30 per hour. SOOO expensive, but worth every
penny.

When I was interviewing last year, the range I came
across was $25 - $45, with most at $35 or $40. We
ended up choosing a night doula for our first 8 weeks
who happened to be $35/hr. A few desperate times
during Months 3-4, we used an nanny for overnights who
was $20/hr; she was a good and trustworthy caregiver
but would not have been appropriate for the
straight-from-the-hospital support that we newbie
parents needed. Hope that helps.

Hi. We used Care.com and spoke with Town and Country
(who, by the way, were very helpful). Both of these
seemed like good resources. Ultimately, however, we
found our nanny through friends. We felt more
comfortable selecting someone who had worked with folks
that we knew. Plus, we know the twins that our nanny
cared for and they are great, well-behaved, healthy
kids. It helped being able to see some of the results
of her work.

Hi! We used Aunt Anns Staffing for our first nanny and
were happy working with them. We found two great night
nurses through them. For our recent nanny search we
used Alyce Derosier in Marin and found a great nanny
through her. Let me know if I can answer anything else
for you.Margaret

We used Care.com once, and found it helpful. However,
the next time around, we used Craig's List & did some
very tailored interviews and found someone wonderful (&
quite a few really strong backups.) I think the key
for us was writing up a really detailed job
description, to pre-screen candidates.What overall
helped us most was using the "Nannies for Modern Moms"
book, by Alyce des Rosiers - she spoke at a POM General
Meeting, and it was a LIFESAVER! There's just so much
to learn about this whole process, and she boiled it
right down to only what was critical, and really
streamlined what would otherwise be an overwhelming
task. Plus, the book is quick/easy to read, SUPER
practical, and offers sample forms and contracts. And
it even uses as an example, a couple looking for a
nanny for their twins! Gotta love that! Here's a
link (& there are used copies available cheap:
http://www.amazon.com/Nannies-Modern-Moms-Essential-Hiring/dp/098157730X
)I'm happy to loan you my copy if you can't find one.
We're in Bernal Hts, and will be at the Sports Basement
event tonight, if you might also be??
