3. NTR: Business Recommendation

Every once in a while you find a great business, and I
feel this one is worth sharing. If you need jewelry
repaired or resized, "A Jeweler's Place" is a great
local business. I don't usually pay a lot of
attention to YELP reviews, but Carol, the
owner/proprietor, had one of the best sets of YELP
reviews I've ever seen. She also repurposes jewelry)
and does custom work. She's great to work with, and
her repairs have been very fairly priced. I've not
yet had anything made, but I've had several things
repaired. I recommend her completely. She also has
jewelry for sale -- some interesting pieces. I've
purchased a few presents there in the last year. 2015

So, this is a little tangential -- but maybe not...
not sure yet! We've just starting trying something w/
our 2.5 year olds that is highly recommended in both
"Happiest Toddler on the Block" (Harvey Karp, who we
love and trust since "Happiest Baby...") and "Brain
Rules for Baby" (Medina - this one's new.) Both
recommend carving out some "special time" (one calls it
"Time IN") between each parent & EACH child, each day.
We call ours Monkey Time. They actually recommend twice
a day, 10 minutes each time. My husband and I are
aiming for 1 10-minute session with EACH of our girls,
separately, each day, but even that has been a
challenge, with our crazy and inconsistent work hours.
However -- the girls really seem to appreciate it...
it's one on one - we try to be in a separate room from
the other pair, and it's totally driven by what each
kid wants to do. (Obviously, as long as it's nothing
dangerous/out of bounds... but so far, neither of them
have wanted anything like that.) So far they've just
wanted to play/read/snuggle - but really respond to the
extra dimension of having one of us all to herself, and
knowing that we won't interrupt for phones, email, a
screaming sibling, etc. And we set a timer for 10
minutes, so they know when time is up. (And no major
meltdowns when it rings!)It's supposed to help fill
their need for individual attention, and make them a
little more calm/confident overall, that they WILL get
what they need from us. They have really enjoyed the
times we've succeeded in making this happen -- I think
(especially as twins) that they really dig the novelty
of getting to be alone for even that short time. We
told them about it before we started, and they've since
brought it up a few times ("Are we doing Monkey Time?"
"Can we do Monkey Time?" etc.) So - it's a little
thing, but it seems to be having positive results so
far. The logistics are the toughest part, but even if
we can get to a minimum of one sesh per day, that's an
improvement, and we'll gradually work towards the
making-it-part-of-a-daily-routine, that both books
recommend, later... Anyway. Sounds like something
you could perhaps try with yours?
