1. Amazing Nanny Available - Ana Higgins!!

megan_m_roberts - 12/30/2011 10:49 pm
It is with many tears that I post this listing. We
are moving out of the city and therefore letting our
nanny go. Ana Higgins has been with our family for
2.5 years. She started with us when the twins were 5
months old and they will be 3 this November. I have so
many positive things to say about her and nothing
negative. She is the most gentle, loving and patient
person. She truly treats the kids as if they were her
own. Family is extremely important to Ana and you can
see that in her words and actions with the children.
She is fun, energetic and creative but while being
aware, thoughtful, and safety minded. Her demeanor is
calm, happy and very hard-working. She frequently
does "extras" around the home, like folding my laundry
(not just the kids), cleans up after my meals, cleans
the kids room, etc all without me asking. She also did
all the cooking for them (excellent food that my
husband and I wanted to be eating), taught them
manners, self-respect, respect for others, and potty
trained them with ease. She is very focused on age
appropriate learning, milestones, etc and works with
the kids in a fun, simple manner to get them to start
rolling over, walking, counting, signing ABC's, etc.
Ana also is great about finding activities in the
neighborhood for the kids, whether they are infants or
toddlers, which are free. We were fortunate enough to
have a great playground and recreation center just two
blocks from our home. Through Ana, she helped our
family become part of that community. We met several
families and continue to have friendships with them all
because of Ana. Whenever we go to that park strangers
will come up to us and gush about how wonderful Ana is
with our kids, how she is very involved with them and
how loving she is with them. Ana taught us so much
about parenting. She taught us to not stress but
rather to enjoy them and be patient. We were
constantly looking to her for advice due to her
experience with twins. Ana is ALWAYS on time (and
sometimes early), never missed a day of work, is
respectful of our home and our belongings, is
respectful of our wishes in terms of parenting/sleep
schedules/food/safety, etc. The twins absolutely
LOVE her. They are excited to see her on Monday
morning, ask for her when we are away on vacation and
even sometimes have a hard time (tears, lots of hugs &
kisses) seeing her leave at night/Friday's. Ana is
originally from Brazil but speaks perfect English.
She has been caring for twins, of all ages, for over 13
years. She is still in contact with many of the
families so that both parties can continue to be part
of each other's lives. The only thing that makes me
feel good about letting Ana go is knowing that another
deserving family will gain an amazing support system in
Ana. Please feel free to call or email me with any
questions. 415-609-6155 or
megan_m_roberts@yahoo.com She is available now. Ana

sharono - 12/30/2011 10:16 pm
Do you automatically give the person/people who clean
your homes an annual increase, or do you wait until
they ask for an increase? If you do increase it, how
much do you add per visit? Feel free to email me
offline if you would prefer to keep this information
private, Sharon@SFUsborneBooks.comThanks!

We stopped our night feed by 5 months. We had fed them
at 10pm, then around 2pm then at 6pm (or thereabouts).
Our understanding was that babies can go for longer
stretches of time at night at 4-5 months but patterns
develop and they are hard to break, mostly for the
parents! We knew of 2 schools of thought about this:
Start moving the 2pm time earlier and earlier (or later
and later) or start cutting back on the amount they are
being fed -- from 4oz, for example, to 1 oz over time.
The later technique worked well. Within a week we had
cut out the night feed. We were surprised at how
quickly our babies didn't need the milk. I think, in
fact, they slept better without the interruption. I
would do a dream feed at 10pm (+/-) until they start
eating solids. (We started solids at 6 months so you
are almost there anyway. Serve a nice big dinner then
breast milk or formula before bed time and you are
set.)Good luck!

Ah, active 18 month-old-twins... I remember that stage.
As for indoor, you're right, it can get expensive. We
signed up for one wintertime activity when our kids
were that age. My Gym in Dogpatch is a terrific,
more-affordable than a lot of other options, great
classes + caregiver/parent. Great fun for all. And my
kids SLEPT like rocks those days! However, reconsider
the "no Playgrounds" thing. They're not out of your
circuit, but simply different. The secret is the fenced
playground (not, for example, the big children's
playground @ GGP). Much depends on where you live,
we're in Bernal Heights, and a bunch of us with twins
nearby (Noe, City College, Potrero) used to share the
"gated playground" list for stuff nearby: Bernal
Library Park is a great place for little ones; Upper
Noe Rec, also manageable, with everyone in view;
Balboa; two in Potrero, etc.... Post a query for gated
playgrounds near your neighborhood, and I'm sure the
community will come out in force. (Also, the Golden
Gate Mothers Group -- GGMG -- has a super playground
directory:http://www.ggmg.org/Playgrounds/playground_summary.html.That
said, I do know it's hard to watch two on-the-go
toddlers climbing, toddling swinging by yourself. But
it is doable, and unless it's raining, you're pretty
much good to go. You'll all be happier to be
outside.Best and cheers,- Judy(Ella & Nathan, Oct 2006)
