1. Seek Advice - Entry to Preschools if Twins Born in November
--------------------------------------------------------
susanmk88 - 1/1/2012 9:03 pm
Would like some advice from other moms, who have
children born later in the year, and when would it be
appropriate for children to go to preschool - age just
less than 2 or wait until almost 3? Do you have
recommendations of good preschools in Marin County?
Would prefer to have children start earlier in
preschool, rather than later, and would appreciate any
advice. Thanks.

Does anyone have any experience with Marin Primary &
Middle School for pre-school - around 2 years of age
for Fall 2012? Would love any feedback /
recommendations. Thanks.

A friend of mine mentioned that it is a well known fact
that most twins have one that is right handed and the
other left handed. That is certainly the case with
mine, but is there a statistic out there that proves
that to be a fact?WendyAlicia/Kira (4/07)

I have never heard this. Your friend might be thinking
of mirror twins?

Before we invest, we were hoping to test-drive a couple
of these. Anyone have a couple they'd be willing to
loan, or are ready to sell? I think we'd need the
larger size (our 2.5 yr olds are pretty tall) but am
still trying to find out about all the options. We
need them for 2 nights (indoors only, at a hotel) Jan
8th, 9th - but it'd be lovely to borrow them a little
earlier to "practice" with them at home.We promise we'd
take great care of them!

We pay $20. I know that is on the higher end, though.
We just love this sitter and so are willing to pay 20,
but I think somewhere between 15-20 is the going rate.

I am trying to get rid of night feedings for our 4
month olds. About 3 weeks ago they went through the
night 3 days in a row without eating and I am 100%
certain they don't need the food. But they have been
erratic for weeks now. Sometimes they want food at 1
AM, sometimes 5 AM. at other times, they wake up and
just want a pacifier and they fall back asleep. We are
trying to not feed them, but sometimes they are so
wound up, it seems like the only solution... The worst
part about it is that there seems to be no pattern --
so I can't just "push back the feeding" from 2 to 3 to
4 to 5, etc, because they change their requested
feeding time every night. If anyone has any advice
about how to get rid of the "irregularly timed" night
feed-- pls. let me know!Argh!Thanks,Molly

The Upper Noe Rec Center at 30th and Day Streets has an
indoor tot room that is perfect for 18 month olds.
There are classes that you can sign up for at
sfreconline.org -- or you can also go to the open tot
hours to check it out. The center is generally closed
on sundays and mondays. (do to budget cuts at the
parks) The open free play tot room hours can be a bit
erratic -- but they are listed here in left column:
http://www.noevalleyreccenter.com/There is a telephone
number, and you can always try the office before
heading out. There are also classes at the rec center,
the classes are listed here:
http://www.noevalleyreccenter.com/at-the-center/sf-rec-and-park-classes/For
what its worth, the public SF pool in North Beach is
very warm and very toddler friendly. They have open
swim hours as well. It might be hard to do two-on-one
in a pool until 2.5 or 3 years/old - but they have a
steps area... We joined the gym at UCSF Mission Bay so
that we can use the indoor pool there with kids, which
we find to be warm enough (and they have classes which
we have never taken). The are a lot of different
playground configurations -- so check out different
ones before giving up on playground time. Walter Haas
might be a good option. The playground at Walter Haas
up on Diamond Heights can be gorgeous on a sunny/nice
day -- and while there are 2 gates to the playground--
there is a HUGE area outside the playground gate that
would need to be traversed before a little one could
get away... the Walter Haas' sandbox and toddler
climbing areas are pretty great for little ones. If you
have an older child -- the older kid structure is
actually pretty good. (One downside: no bathroom!)
The playground at Noe Courts has just one gate and is
perfect for toddlers.
