1. Expectant Twin Mom - Advice Welcome

Hello! We are 21 weeks pregnant with twin girls and
have a 3.5 yo boy. We live in the Inner Richmond and
are trying to get ready for our two new little ones. I
have so many questions about infant twins that I'm
feeling a little overwhelmed and need advice. Right
now we are planning to have an au pair move in and have
begun reaching out to both Culture Care and AuPairCare
on the recommendation of friends. We've recently moved
into a bigger place and are now trying to figure out
our car situation. I have so many questions about
strollers, car seats, night nurses, nursing that I
don't know where to begin. While I'm not new to
infants and parenting, I know multiples are a whole
different world. I've searched the archives and have
read some of the posts, but am wondering what resources
are available in SF for expectant (and overwhelmed)
parents of twins? Thank you!

I don't have any advice but I'm in a similar position.
I'm 26 weeks with twin girls and have a 1.5 year old
boy. If you want to get together for "coffee" or a
playdate and exchange ideas and moral support, let me
know! Cathy

5. Part-time work schedule

anonymous - 1/25/2012 11:14 am
I have twins who just turned one. I took 6 months off
from work when they were born, and then returned to
work as a lawyer full time. I am now considering going
part-time so that I can spend more time with my kids
and not have to work every waking moment outside of the
few hours I carve out to spend with the kids mornings
and evenings. For those of you who have worked
part-time, do you have any suggestions or advice about
your part-time arrangement and what aspects of it have
worked/not worked well for you? How have you handled
things like having back-up childcare available for
times when you may have to work more hours than
anticipated?Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

I'm just working on something for Multiplicity about
this, which will appear in the March/April issue. I
can send you some facts off-line - but if you guys
START with cloth as soon as you get home - set up the
service before your little ones are born - you really
won't know anything different, and (in my experience,
anyway) it's really NOT any more bother - particularly
when you consider all the benefits (health,
environmental, financial.) I can send you my
cheat-sheet, since you're due in April. Tiny Tots has
been a real pleasure to work with - they are PROS, and
have excellent customer service, appropriate
recommendations for all stages, and can provide you
with everything you need without you ever needing to
leave your house. (& they carry loads of
non-diaper-related stuff that they also will deliver
you, free of charge, along with your weekly diapers.)
In fact, their pricing on diaper covers is the lowest
I've found anywhere. And - there are lots of used
diaper covers to be had, too, on Craig's List, parent
listservs, and at our upcoming Consignment Sale!
Generally cloth-diapered babies potty train
sooner/quicker, too, so that's an additional plus!Also
- in our experience - at least while we were
breastfeeding, the diapers really are not so bad. They
only started getting smelly after our little ones
started solids, so it was SUPER simple up till then,
and really not too bad after. Only issue I can think
of at all - not even really a "con," just something to
know about - is that most baby clothes assume
disposable diapers, not cloth which can be a bit
bulkier - so keep in mind that you might need to buy
pants a size up for a while, to get around the slightly
larger diapers. But then - once they're potty
trained, you get a lot more use out whatever pants they
WERE wearing when they started!Lastly, if you think
your husband would be more comfortable hearing about
this from another dad of twin girls, I'm sure mine
would be more than happy to chat! Hooray for you, for
investigating all this ahead of time, and good luck
with everything! Feel free to contact me offline, too,
if you want to chat.
