1. New Family Outings Planner Needed

jennifergranick - 1/26/2012 1:19 pm
Hello, friends:After a few years of helping plan and
execute the Family Outings, I am stepping down. Anyone
interested in replacing me? The job is fun, you get to
plan a party 3 times a year, and we have it pretty much
down pat. Its not a lot of work, and you get to be
creative about food, entertainment, location and the
like. I would say total time commitment, other than
setting up, attending, and cleaning up after the party
is about 2 hours per event. If you think you might be
interested, please email me directly and I'll give you
some more information. Thanks so much,Jennifer

Congratulations!I have 14-month old twin girls and no
older children, but I'm happy to talk to anyone about
preparing for your twin birth. I had 6 (!) friends
with twins before my girls arrived so I got a LOT of
good advice before giving birth. BTW -- We have a FT
nanny but I considered an au pair. I spoke with
Deborah Schwarz at Cultural Care Au Pair. She is the
person to talk to if you are having twins. She is
fantastic and came recommended from a friend in the
know.Lisa

Congratulations!! Twins are amazing in so many ways. I
don't have older children, just my 15 month-old boys
but one piece of advice that I would give is to get a
night doula if you can at all swing it-- ours was a
savior in so many ways!! I ended up choosing to be a
SAHM but do still have help a couple of times a week so
I can get out. Getting a break is essential. Please
feel free to tent mail me with any questions or if you
want a night doula recommendation. You have a lot to
look forward to :)

I think going part-time is ideal, if your employer will
let you. I'm an attorney working part time and am so
appreciative for the extra time with my twins. In
practice, it is hard to contain the job to whatever
reduced hours you work, because some weeks there is
just too much work to fit in and because it can be hard
to enforce your part time schedule with colleagues and
extra projects. But, I've gotten comfortable with
giving myself more time off when the work is slower to
compensate, and to feeling ok about leaving early. As
far as back-up childcare, I have my nanny for more time
than I need to be in the office because I know I will
use those hours most weeks for extra work or to catch
up on things around the house (or just to have extra
hands). I also sometimes work at night after I put the
twins down. I'm happy to talk more about it, if you
would like. You can call me at 415-505-3651.

I think working part time is the best of all worlds and
have been working 3 days a week since the twins were 3
months old (now almost 3). There have been times I
have had to work extra. Making it all workable is
having a husband with a somewhat flexible work
schedule, who can take a sick day to take care of them
if I have to go in on an off day, or work from home
when they got a little older (and take a long afternoon
nap), so I could do an easy half day in the office.
Also, our 3 day a week nanny didn't work on one of the
other two days for the first two years, so she was also
able to pitch in sometimes, or refer me to friends and
family members she trusts to help take care of the
kids. It's all worked out. These early years and my
ability to spend a little more than half my time with
the kids have been so absolutely precious to me. The
time REALLY does go by so quickly, and you can't get it
back. But also, working part time has kept me sane and
not stuck in a rut at home, and more excited to see the
kids on a regular basis I think. I feel a balance in my
life and feel insanely lucky to have it.

I work 3 days a week and it is great. I still have 2
days to take classes with the kids, see friends etc. We
still have a full time nanny (36 hours) on the 3 days I
work. She comes from 7a-7p and it just makes life
easier. My husband works long hours so I needed someone
who could do those hours. We had no problem finding
someone who wanted 3 long days. Good luck with your
decision. If you can swing it, its definitely the best
of both worlds!
