1. Convertible Car Seat to Unload?
--------------------------------------------------------
helen_s - 2/10/2012 3:02 pm
We are looking for a convertible - i.e., not infant
size - car seat to keep in grandma's car. Anyone have
one they are looking to unload? It would be much
appreciated! Our preemie twins are 16 mos old and
weigh around 21/22 lbs. apiece.

3. Seeking nanny or doula Tuesdays + additional day each week
--------------------------------------------------------
mollygetty - 2/10/2012 11:48 am
I'm looking for a nanny, doula or other childcare
provider to help me with my 3 week old twin boys two
days per week - definitely Tuesdays and the second day
would ideally be Fridays but we are flexible as long as
Tuesdays are covered. Hours are flexible too, all day
is ideal but we will take what we can get if we find
the right person. Primary role is to support
breastfeeding twins and mom's recovery.

4. sleep training with multiples
--------------------------------------------------------
lindaaking - 2/10/2012 3:30 am
I am a parent to seven-month old twin boys and a
twenty-five month old daughter. My daughter was always
and still is a good sleeper, like the one twin boy.
However, the other twin boy sleeps much less.
Recently, with winter colds, the boys had RSV for
almost a month, which ruined the good sleep habits we
established with sleep training in September and
November, after a setback with teething and colds. At
this point, sleep training is backfiring because the
one twin is waking up the other two babies. My partner
and I have used the gradual, five, ten, fifteen minute
consoling increments to sooth the infant back to sleep.
However, I don't want to do any sleep training if it
wakes the other two up because three babies up and
crying at 3am is far worse than dealing with one,
specially since my toddler has a toddler bed now since
she crawls out of bed. She can let herself out of her
room, etc. I am wondering what other parents have done
in this situation. Co-sleeping is an option I don't
mind, but it is really bad for my neck and shoulder and
causing a lot of pain. Should I set up a pack-n-play
in our room or the living room, although he may still
wake up the others there. He will not stay down even
after rocking to sleep for thirty minutes until he's
snoring. He wakes up once he is put down in the crib.
I'm starting to get a bit frustrated. I still pump in
the middle of the night to keep up my milk supply and
make bottles to follow the breastfeeding during the
day. Sometimes I can't even get that down because he
won't go down, even after nursing. Any ideas or tools
of the trade will be helpful. I lean towards
attachment parenting, but have had to sleep train my
daughter in the past and the boys twice in the past.
Just, at this point, it's backfiring. Thanks in advance
for your help.

We are NUTS about our doctors, Dr. Martel & Dr.
Herbsman of Child's Light Pediatrics. They don't have
an office - they do all house calls (it's awesome).
They can do vaccinations and all kinds of procedures at
the house too. They are always available via email,
cell or text (no answering service or on-call nurses)
and they're so great with babies, and very
knowledgeable. They used to run the CPMC pediatrics
program at the hospital. Highly, highly, highly
recommend. United covers a percentage of their fees, as
with any PPO, but not the monthly fee. We feel it's
been worth it, especially the first year when there are
so many dr visits and questions that you want answered
at a moment's notice.

We love our Bug a Boo Donkey. It's an incredibly
durable, awesome stroller! Must add, it is huge and
heavy to lift. Will need to ensure it can fit in your
car. It's a solid ride and great off road, i.e. in
parks or bumpy side walks. Lulls babies to sleep ;-)

We have the BabyJogger CitiMini Double. I can't say I
love it but it's been good to us. :)Pros: easy for me
alone to lift up (we used to live in a place where we
had to haul the stroller up & down stairs); very easy
to maneuver/turn (my hubby drives it with one hand);
seats fold down flat (when they're little and more
prone to sleep); feel like it will last a long time
(the weight capacity and seats can hold real toddlers
so we don't need another stroller); lots of random
pockets; works nicely with the BundleMes Cons:
sometimes it takes me a couple times to fold it up (not
sure if that's a universal issue though, or just the
one we got - now we just leave it unfolded in the
garage so less of an issue); probably not the smoothest
ride but I guess the boys don't know any different; the
underneath basket is def hard to access/not big so I
use a Mommy Hook; the seats are a little deep so when
they were smaller, I felt like they were hunched over
-- not an issue now at 14 months; doesn't seem
well-designed for a tray attachment which might be nice
now that they're older We have a Audi A4, and it fits
in the trunk; there have only been a couple places
where the stroller was too wide (like the Papyrus on
Chestnut St, or some of the Chinese grocery stores on
Clement) but it fits in the places we typically go
(grocery stores, Walgreens). There have def been times
that I've looked with envy at the Phil & Ted's type of
configuration, though my husband really wanted a
side-by-side. Note: We hardly EVER take the stroller
out in the car; we use it for neighborhood
walks/errands and to go to the playground, etc. In
retrospect, I may have considered the double Bob (the
one with the smallest footprint) b/c they seem so nice
to "drive" and easy to push, def a smoother ride for
the boys. My nanny told me she prefers the CitiMini
b/c it's more lightweight than the Bob (which she's
used before). We also have a couple inexpensive single
umbrella strollers which we use for one-on-one
adventures and for travel. When they were smaller, I
would also sometimes put one in a Bjorn and one in a
single stroller. CitiKids on Clement has a bunch of
double strollers out on the floor to see in-person and
would probably let you see if a particular model fits
in your trunk. Good luck!

LOVE our City Select. Folds up pretty easily, fits into
the trunk of our Subaru with room to spare, and it's
the smallest footprint of any stroller on the market, I
believe. So happy I don't have a tandem -- this really
navigates much more easily on city streets, in stores
etc.

On the advice of our midwife, we bailed on the gliders
and got a La-Z-Boy. I resisted at first (they're not
the most attractive chairs, but then again the gliders
aren't exactly pieces you'd put in your living room
either) but then I sat in one and I was sold. It was
great for tandem feeding the girls for the first 4
months (they quit breastfeeding after that, so I can't
speak to how well it would have worked as they got
bigger -- I suspect it would have started to get tight,
but that's true of any chair I imagine). It was so
great when we have had to be up with them constantly,
either when sick or when they were tiny; we could just
kick up the foot rest, lean back, and snooze
comfortably. My husband is very tall and this was
considerably more comfortable than any of the gliders
we tried. It's about the same price range as a new
glider.

I agree with the idea of an upholstered chair. We got
one from babies r us. It swivels, glides and reclines.
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4237323&searchURL=trueI
didn't breastfeed them on this chair because as they
got older and bigger, the chances of them rolling off
the nursing pillow got greater. Also, it was
convenient to be able to stage them on the boppies on
either side before I put them on the twin nursing
pillow. But it's been great for all the nights we've
held them while they slept when they were sick.
Comfort-wise, I thought the newco was a lot more
comfortable than the wooden rockers. One thing that
some of the wooden rockers has going for them that this
one doesn't is that you can lock the chair from
swivelling and gliding on some of those (not sure if
the dutelier is one of them) whereas you can't with the
Newco. If you do go with a dutelier, this is a feature
you might want to keep in mind.
