1. Nanny paid days off?

I was wondering if anyone could educate me on the
protocol for providing paid sick days for a nanny. Do
you give them? If so, how many? Also, if I go on
vacation & give the nanny sufficient advanced notice
(at least a month), is it commonplace to pay her for
the days you ask her not to come? I am totally new to
the nanny world & I want to be fair, but I also don't
want to be unreasonably over-accommodating. For the
record, the nanny we hired about 2 months ago just
recently told me that she is used to 9 paid sick
days/year, & that we are to pay her when we cancel her
to go on vacation, even with sufficient notice.
Anyone's experiences with this sort of thing is greatly
appreciated!

Hello Ladies,
When did you start giving your babies sippy cups? And how
long did...

Hi there, I feel like I have tried every sippy cup
there is! (Not really, but close.) We first introduced
sippy cups with water in them at around 7-8 months. The
girls were curious and took to them right away. We'd
offer them whenever they had a meal, be it bottle
and/or solids. We started with these by Munchkin (by
far our favorite brand). They had soft spouts, but
required sucking, like a
bottle.http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=265308&catid=182604&aid=337953&aparam=munchkin_mighty_grip_tra&CAWELAID=504755652Then
at around 9-10 months we wanted to switch them to
drinking milk from a sippy cup at meals. We tried it
with the Munchkins but they didn't take, so we tried a
number of others. Finally we settled on a hard spout
that we got at Walgreens. It took some adjustment since
they didn't have to suck, they just had to pour and
drink, but they liked them quite a bit. BUT they're
messy (not spill-proof), so I ended up getting
Munchkin's straw sippy cups. They both took to the
straw very quickly; one immediately, the other in a few
tries. Now they get water at each meal in the straw
sippy cup (link below) and milk in the hard spout sippy
cup.http://www.amazon.com/Munchkin-Mighty-Straw-2-Pack-Colors/dp/B001QXCF0SBy
14 months, we were ready to get rid of the final bottle
they got, first thing in the morning, and replace it
with a sippy cup. The girls get this bottle in our bed,
lying down, so we wanted a spill proof cup. The straw
wasn't a good option, neither was the hard spout, but
we loved Munchkin so found one with a soft spout (but
no handles) and that did the trick.

at 15 months, they are totally bottle free. We did it
in stages, as you can see.

What worked really well with us was a bottle that had
an attached straw. They thought that this was so cool.
We started this at 15 months and they still use the
straw bottles for both milk and water at 21 months.
Our kids never took to sippy cups so this is an
alternative option.

Good luck to you! I'm at 31 weeks and don't have any
other children, so can't imagine what that must be
like. For meal delivery, grocery delivery, etc, I
highly recommend Task Rabbit
(http://www.taskrabbit.com/dashboard). I've used them
for odds and ends with good results. I also love my
dog walker: Emmett at MetroTails
(http://www.metrotails.com/).

Hi! I was put on bed rest starting at 20 weeks for
early contractions/pre term labor and was able to keep
my boys in until 34 weeks. But, 3 1/2 months on strict
bed rest can make anyone go a little stir crazy. One
thing that the doctor told me that I kept in my mind
was "the next few months are the most important months
in the next 50 years of your babies' lives". So
whenever I thought I was going to go nuts, I thought of
that. Here are some more tips. Hang in there, sister!-
My husband set me up with a mini fridge and kept it
stocked with water, yogurt, fruit, hummus wraps,
smoothies, etc. so I didn't have to get up and could
keep eating...I didn't have much of an appetite since I
wasn't moving around so this helped to remind me to
eat.- Join a bed rest group online...seriously it was
great to talk to other people in the same boat. The bed
rest group on Baby Center was really great and everyone
is really supportive.- Keep a little basket of things
by your bed that will help make you feel human - your
favorite scented lotion, floss, face cream, lip balm,
facial wipes to stay fresh, whatever helps! A great
website is 3floz.com...they have small versions of a
lot of great beauty products.- If you don't have an
iPad and have been wanting to get one, now is the time
to send your partner out to get you one. Seriously.
It's not heavy or cumbersome like a laptop, and you can
read, do puzzles, watch tv or movies, email,
etc.-pillows, pillows, pillows. you will need to
readjust every so often and will need support for your
growing belly.I really wish you the best. You are doing
an amazing thing for your little ones and you will
eventually look back and feel good about what you did
(and didn't do!). If you need support or just have any
questions or want to chat, feel free to tent mail me!
Take care!
