Inner Richmond, Laurel Village, NOPA, Alamo Square,
Lower Pac Heights, Lower Haight, Civic Center, Hayes
Valley, SOMA. We would be looking for availability in

2. Au Pair Advice

We are expecting twins in May/June and have a 4yo as
well. Both my husband and I work full time out of the
house and so were looking into au pair programs.
However we are worried about the 45 hour limit per week
especially with commute time etc. Those of you with au
pairs, do you have to have supplemental child care as
well?

I think it's really fabulous that you're doing this!!
My playgroup took the Touch Blue Sky classes and my
25-month-old girl now uses 68 signs!! (Our boy was only
interested in the important ones: milk, more, all
done) It has saved us untold tantrums for them to be
able to communicate with us. (Like being able to share
"scared spider" when she was crying from remembering
that she saw a big spider hours earlier.) You'll feel
silly in the beginning signing to a baby that just
stares back at you, but one day they'll sign back and
then it will explode like you can't imagine! Stick
with it and good luck!!

I have Kaiser, and my OB had me stop at 30 weeks. I
also have state benefits, and it was all a little
confusing, with the sixteen weeks of job protection
having to coincide with another form of leave, FMLA,
6-8 weeks postpartum... Going out that early I think
might mess me up on then postpartum paid time off, but
I am on my feet at work for a lot of the day, and I
start at 6am, and it was getting to be too much. Plus,
I did IVF, and am 38 yrs old, so I had some risk
factors to consider. Although I'm getting a little
stir crazy at home (35 weeks now) since I'm far less
mobile, I don't think I could've been at work much
longer. I was already starting to have BH contractions
and having to stop and sit down all the time, so it was
best for the pregnancy to leave. Everything has been
smooth sailing so far, so im happy to have been careful
about it. If you can work from home that is great!
I'd plan on 30-32 wks if you have no other risk
factors. Congrats and good luck!

I would suggest a floor chair if you're going to be
nursing on the floor -- it makes it a lot easier and
is basically as comfortable as a couch. It also works
just fine with the nursing

it were me, I'd get a second nursing pillow, too, and
see if you can store it at the caregiver's or at least
in you car. The less you have to remember to lug back
and forth, the easier. There are always used ones for
sale in the classifieds here, or you could surely get
one at the sale next weekend.I didn't nurse at lunch (I
pumped at work), but nursing at lunch is such a better
option if you have the opportunity. I hope everything
works out for you!!

I just got the Implanon inserted in my arm yesterday.
It is very similar to the Mirena - some hormones and
may stop or lighten periods. I wanted the copper IUD
but I wasn't a candidate because my uterus was too
small. Implanon lasts for 3 years and is easy to remove
earlier if needed. Previously I used Nuvaring and liked
it, since you only had to think about it once a month.
But I wanted something longer term this time! If you're
still breast feeding, either IUD or Implanon are fine.
