I have a several questions....1. Has anyone had
experience with their children going to Tule Elk CDC?
Can you share your experience please or have heard of
others' experience. You can email me directly at
lwtay@sbcglobal.net2. If I understand SFUSD assignment
right, going to a public preschool in our area would
improve our chances of getting into our local area
kindergarten/elementary school. Is that your
experience?3. Is separating twins into different
classrooms at age 3 too early?4. My twins just got
adjusted to their current preschool which they have
attended 5 months now - took them a couple of months to
feel comfortable (as in they are really actively
participating now). Would relocating them just when
they are comfortable a good idea? Thanks!

Hi there, Hoping to get some advice from those of you
with twins that are 3+ years old: I'm slowly collecting
wooden tracks, trains & train accessories for my son
for Christmas and a doll house filled with furniture
for my daughter for Christmas. They will be 6 weeks
shy of their 3rd Birthday at Christmas, am I giving him
the train toys too late and missing the boat? Or are
boys into Thomas the Train or trains in general for a
while longer? Likewise, am I giving her the dollhouse
too early and she's not going to know what to do with
it? And lastly, we don't watch any TV or let the kids
play with iPads and it's going so well I don't really
care to change it unless I have to. Does anyone out
there have kids that were super in to trains even
though they weren't necessarily obsessed with the
show/movies/books of Thomas the Train? (I apologize if
all of these are really silly questions....! What
appropriate toys to give my kids at the right time
seems to be what I struggle with most as a
parent!)thanks everyone, HollyPS - Got any Thomas the
Train stuff or doll house furniture to sell? Email me

My youngest (both boys) just turned 3 last month. I
bought a huge used collection of trains and tracks from
another mom when they were 2 and they immediately
started playing with the trains, but have only started
to show an interest about the tracks in the last couple
of months. They are WAY into Matchbox/Hotwheels sized
cars, so it makes sense that they were first attracted
to the trains. They are just starting to enjoy building
car tracks, too.

My son who is now 3.5 yrs old has been loving trains
since before 2 yrs old - we started with a simple IKEA
train and at 2.5 yrs he got a duplo Lego train set we
got second hand and he has been playing with it almost
every day. He also loves the wooden Thomas set (very
limited collection) we have but I think it's harder to
assemble and play with than the legos. We used to let
him watch a Thomas DVD once in a while but it's been a
while since he watched any and it doesnt affect his
interest level in the actual toy. He loves is Thomas
books! Highly recommend the books instead of DVSs.I am
alao curious about doll houses an dplat kitchens and
girls. My girls are only 16 months and I am looking for
some engaging toys for them too. They love their
brother's trains!- Aleks On Apr 30, 2012, at 4:18 PM,

My boy/girl twins are turning 6 in July.We got my
daughter a dollhouse when she was about 3.5. She liked
it, but didn't really play with it until she was 4-5.
She now plays with it sometimes. Our son is obsessed
with trains. He was ok with Thomas at first (we had
lots of videos of Thomas), but has grown to really
dislike Thomas, but loves all other trains without
faces. I think he doesn't like the faces. He's been
train crazy since at least 3 or younger. AND he still
loves them. He has a train table, but we've found it is
too small of the size of structure he likes to create.
We were lucky to find a full box of Tomika train tracks
at a flea market. He now builds the tracks that takes
over our living room floor.. Seriously, the floor about
a good 5x5 feet square of space.Susan--- On Mon,

My kids loved loved their toy kitchen. Both my son and
daughter played with them for years. I got them when
they were about 2 and they played with them until they
were 5 1/2. I got rid of the toy kitchen to make room
for a very large doll house which they never played
with. They did ask for a smaller playmobile doll house
and swimming pool that they play with all the time!!

I would go to stores or play rooms where trains and
doll houses are on display to see what your kids will
gravitate to.We don't watch much TV either, never seen
Thomas. My son loves cars, we got a train table when he
was 2 and all the tracks were overwhelming. We didn't
want to glue them to the table because we are sure that
he'll love lining up his own tracks later - he loves to
line up cars, crayons. So far he just uses trains as
cars, lines them up, moves around. We use the table as
a play table without tracks. We still didn't get the
doll house, but our daughter really liked playing with
one. It was large chunky plastic one in a waiting room.
Grandparents want to get her one, but we still didn't
decide which one.

My boys are trains-obssessed from the time they were
1.5 years old after a visit to a friend's house who had
a train table. For their 2 year old birthday, we
requested a train-car as gifts, and they were able to
amass a decent train set within a day. Aside from a
generic wooden tracks we got them, we also inherited
two sets from two families (one, her son stopped
playing with the trains at age 8), and we just lay
tracks all over our living room floor. They started
putting the tracks by themselves at about 2.5 years
old....though the parents are still requested to build
out fancy tracks. They literally play with their
trains maybe 2 hours a day....they are almost 3 now,
and tell stories as they play - like the trains are
going to make believe places like Chinatown. And they
can tell the trains apart and memorize their colors and
numbers. Crazy!I have only shown them two Thomas
videos - I prefer the older short ones "The Best of
Thomas" rather than the movie-length newer ones. What
they love is the "My Thomas Story" set of little books
on each Thomas character. I prefer the UK version
which has larger font for my old eyes, despite the
"trucks" and "Fat" Controller.

Our girls are starting to show very mild interest in

use in case they want to try it out one day. I've seen
some that can be used multiple ways (e.g. standalone
potty on the floor, or attachment for the regular
toilet). Wondering what trainer potties you would

We bought a second glider and put it in the living
room. We used it more often than the one in the nursery
for the first couple of months. I don't remember
needing to rock both of them separately simultaneously,
so we never needed both chairs in the same room.

Remember that the Double breastfeeding pillow (also
great to use for bottlefeeding) doesnšt fit within the
arms of the rocker. So chances are, you willnot be
using the rocker for most of your breastfeeding. Two
rockers are notnecessary, in my opinion as it is
really just to rock a twin, or feed onetwin at a time.
Youšll have to get used to the idea that one twin often
hasto wait for his/her turn!

We had one glider with a gliding ottoman. Whenever my
husband and I needed to rock two babies at once
(typically during our "dream feed") I would sit in the
glider and he would glide on the ottoman. Not ideal,
but we didn't have the room for two chairs. I think
you can certainly get by with one for sure. But, if
you have the space and a really actively involved
husband/partner/helper, you may enjoy having two for
those late nights where you're too tired to stand.

We found a love-seat glider at Pottery Barn that has
been perfect at all stages. It fit the breastfeeding
pillow easily, and fits two adults without being too
squished. We still use it for story time with two
adults, or just three of us. I have also slept on it
some rough nights! I'm not sure if they still carry
it, but maybe you could find something similar
elsewhere, too. Congratulations, so exciting!

Thanks Holly. That's a good reason to get the ottoman.
I was leaning against the gliding ottomans that go with
the rockers I see, because I just like the look of
other ottomans better. But that might solve some
issues. We definitely did dream feeds with my first
daughter, so I imagine we will do them with the twins.
We cold also get an inexpensive second rocker to have
in the short term I guess.

and a glider w/ottoman in the nursery. Worked great.
Never recall thinking we needed two rockers at once and
we used the couch a lot for breast feeding (two at once
or one at a time) b/c way more roomy than the glider.
Good luck!

We've been in crib tents for almost a year now.
Started at 14 months when my son appeared to be
climbing before walking! We love them, and I find them
to be very safe. I did some internet searching before
buying and saw something about a baby strangulation,
but I honestly don't understand how that could happen
if you were to follow the install directions. My kids
are now 26 months and love their little "forts" and
don't at all mind being zipped in. In fact, some
mornings we unzip my daughter's tent and she'll reach
over and zip herself back up and lay back down with a
book!! We bought the Tots In Mind Crib Tent II. Make
sure to go to the website and ensure that you are
buying a tent that will fit your crib style. We had to
rig ours a bit to work because they weren't made for
our high back crib style. Also, make sure there is
never too much strain on the zipper because you
installed too tightly. This will surely burst the
zipper. We had to return one tent because of this and
the company replaced it immediately - so save your
receipts and purchase info! I have heard (like Vicki
above) that eventually kids figure out how to unzip
them, but I believe the Crib Tent II came up with a
better design to avoid this. I don't see how a kid
could figure it out with the current design. That
said, I did know a set of triplets who could unzip
themselves, climb out, climb a sibling's crib and unzip
them and climb in and join them! Kids get pretty
crafty around 2 1/2. Good luck!

We used care.com to find both of the nannies we hired.
On the first hire, we started 3 months early and i was
glad we did it because our hire had a commitment to her
current family for a few months so we had the time and
flexibility to let her serve that out. Our second
hire we started reviewing profiles two months out with
some email communication to get to know a few, then
started interviews one month out, then hired someone to
start two weeks later. It felt a bit stressful, but
did work out fine. I think there is no right answer on
this. You'll either find someone 3 months early who
wants work NOW, or you'll find someone when you need
them who can't start for a few weeks. I think better
to start early so that the odds are more in your favor.
Also, I wouldn't hire anyone who wasn't okay with my
Mom being there. If that is the way you want to raise
your kids and it doesn't affect the nanny's schedule or
pay, my opinion is that I would only hire someone who
was completely and totally open to this, and who viewed
my Mother as a partner in care, not an inconvenience.
Good luck!
