looking for a short term lease (furnished preferred,

ideal.Thanks,Michelle

I don't have any experience with a bright spot, but we
did CVS with our twins. From the very beginning we
always planned to do that kind of testing with any
pregnancy, single or double. I wanted to know
everything possible, as early as possible. It honestly
didn't even cross my mind not to do it. I'm somewhat of
a worrier, and a total planner, so it just made sense
for us. The test was fine, and the kids were fine.
There are risks, but being worried for the rest of your
pregnancy sounds pretty rough. As everyone else said,
you have to do what feels right to you - neither choice
is the wrong one.

Like Jessica, we did not see a bright spot but opted
for amnio for a variety of reasons, the biggest one
being my age and the relative risk we faced. I was
certain that I wanted to do it, but I was terribly
anxious about it and worried over it for months. The
actual procedure was very fast and simple and I felt
very confident that the doctor had done a great job
understanding the babies' positions in utero and
keeping them far, far away from the needle. Everything
went well, there were no complications either from the
amnio procedure or the results, and I was so glad we
had done it. So if you opt for the amnio, here's
another voice of reassurance. The most important thing
with the amnio is the number of procedures the doctor
has done. Ours was done by the head of perinatology at
UCSF and he's done billions of them, and that really
made me rest easier.

I did not have a bright spot on my baby's heart but one
twin did have a choroid plexus cyst in his brain, which
is a "soft marker" for Trisomy 18-- present in 1-2% of
normal babies and 50% of babies with Trisomy 18. In
our case we opted not to do the amnio because our blood
tests and other ultrasound findings indicated very low
risk, and my husband was incredibly anxious about the
invasive procedure. I think it really depends on your
need for a certain answer. I did worry for a few weeks
(actually pretty intensely in the 24th week, or the end
of the amnio "window") but am now glad I opted out of
it. But our other risk assessment was so low-- 1/6200
chance for Down Syndrome, 1/100,000 for Trisomy 18 via
the blood tests + nuchal. If I were you, I would go
back to the doctor and have a more in-depth discussion
about risk within the context of the other data-- what
was your nuchal thickness? How did your other test
results look? And think about what you would do if the
amnio was positive for DS-- would you definitely
terminate? If the answer is "maybe not" it might not
be worth the risk... if the answer is "definitely" it
might be worth it. Good luck-- I hope it turns out
well, whatever you decide?

We looked for a long time for a love seat type glider -
something big enough to hold both babies. We didn't
find anything like that, so we got a regular, single
glider. But we found that the two of us were often in
the nursery at the same time, rocking both babies. At
first the person who wasn't on the glider sat on the
floor. Then we moved another (non gliding) chair into
the nursery. But we found that we both wanted the
glider, so eventually we just bought a second one on
Craigslist. It's been really nice having two. But I
didn't do much double breastfeeding - it never really
worked out for us. The little that I did took place in
my bedroom, on our bed. I needed that much space anyway
- I'm not sure if I could have done it on even a really
wide glider. One final note - we didn't use the gliding
ottoman for a while, in an attempt to save space. We
shared the ottoman that came with the non gliding chair
that was in there for a while, but it was really hard
to rock in the glider with a non gliding ottoman. Just
FYI.

Just to chime in the timing... we knew we needed a
nanny to start in mid Feb, and we started looking at
the beginning of Jan. It worked out well - the person
we ended up hiring was working with a set of twins, and
actually finished that job just a few days before she
started with us. But we also met plenty of people who
were looking for work right away. My biggest concern
about starting super early was that if we found someone
who wanted to work right away but accepted our job,
they might keep looking for something sooner, and if
they found it, cancel their commitment to us. I don't
know how likely that is, but it would be terrible since
you'd be much closer to needing someone, and you'd have
to start over. I don't think the nanny would have any
problem working with you mom - I'd think s/he'd
appreciate an extra set of hands! I think some moms
stay home, either working or not, while the nanny is
there, and this seems similar to that. The only concern
I could think of is that the nanny (or your mom) might
want to meet the other in advance... but that probably
wouldn't be a bid deal.Anyway, I think a couple of
months is good timing... but I also had people
encouraging me to look much earlier than that, so a
different timeline would probably also work.Oh, and we
had a good experience using care.com, too. Good luck!
