Hi all, we've got 6-month old boy/girl twins and are really
feeling overwhelmed lately...

Hi,We did get a high school gal to help us out during
the 'witching hour' as our nanny would go home when the
most difficult part of the day would just begin. We
paid her $13/hour as we were present the whole time.
Her job was to mind my two-year old while I dealt with
the twins and tried to make dinner. The younger help
tends to be more flakey, not as good at communication
and not as safety smart, etc., but it might be just
what you need to get you through this time. I feel
your pain, Mama. It will get better as soon the twins
will entertain each other. Make a posting on GGMG and
your local neighborhood parents group.Best,Linda

A mother's helper can definitely help with laundry,
dishes, tidying up as well as helping with the kids. I
think the range is about $10-$15 per hour. I pay mine
$12. Also think about ways you can have the kids with
you while you're doing chores - sitting in a Bumbo or
high chair watching you, or playing on a floormat. You
don't have to be holding them or down on the floor
every minute to still spend time with them!

In a word, yes! I hired some SF state students to get
me through until webit the bullet and got an au pair,
and the students were WONDERFUL! You canpost a job
listing through their career center
website.http://www.sfsu.edu/~career/employers/index.html
Hire someone who candrive, so they can run errands and
pick up groceries, etc. The students atstate were so
helpful and enthusiastic, they really pitched in and
helpedout. I paid $14/hr, but later learned that I
probably didn't need to paythat much. You can probably
find someone good for $12. I prefer to havehelp with
chores like bottles, baby laundry, tidying up, etc so I
can focusmy energies on enjoying my kids. It's also
good to have a second pair ofhands when they start
toddling around and you venture out to theplaygrounds.
The students have flexible schedules, and they are
notdepending on you for their livelihoods, so you can
get as much or as littlehelp as you need. Once you
have some folks you trust and have trained wellyou can
even use them for date nights and you will know that
your littleones are in good hands because you will have
spent many hours observing thehelpers at work. You
will have to be very specific and concrete about howyou
want things done, they are young adults, not
professionals, but I thinkit's worth it! It's
important to have a deep bench of helpers, so youwon't
be left in the lurch if someone goes on study abroad or
has somethingcome up. We had three that came and went
as needed in the early days. Good luck, and don't feel
weird about getting as much help as you need. This is a
time-limited experience, but it's important to be able
to enjoyit, not just survive it!

Yes, if you can afford then get a mother's helper so
you can enjoy your kids. I regret not spending enough
"fun" time with my twins. I was always tired. They
grow up so FAST and then before you know it their not
babies any more. From:

a couple of other suggestions (although all the above
are right on): On some days, I feel like cleaning up
and tidying while they nap or play independently (I
just talk to them while doing chores, explain what I'm
doing, what we're going to do, or sing...), and other
days, I totally let everything just pile up. And it's
ok. Then, in the evening, after an hour of unwinding, I
just put on a silly show on Hulu, and start cleaning
up. Then it feels like I'm watching TV (and not doing
chores). Also, I started telling myself that all the
chores is my exercise and workout. I try to tell myself
that I should be thankful for ALL THESE opportunities
to get moving and do something (since I don't have much
of an opportunity (or motivation) to go to the gym.
Lastly, I found that some things create a huge mess but
are super easy to clean up: I let the boys play in our
"belt drawer". They pull everything out, have fun for a
half hour, it makes a HUGE mess, because there are
belts everywhere, but it takes about 2 minutes to clean
up (i.e. dump everything back in the drawer). That's
very satisfying on the clean-up side ;-) But I hope
you're able to get some help at home, so you are able
to enjoy this time a little bit (more).

Topic: Stroller cover for twins stroller?
Hi!
My friend recommends getting a stroller cover because of the
winds in San Francisco...

Do NOT get this double cover:
http://www.amazon.com/Sashas-Kiddies-Jogger-Select-Strollers/dp/B003UCFX66/ref=sr_1_3?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1338432278&sr=1-3I
bought it despite the bad reviews, and it broke within
30 minutes. I returned it and got my money back, so
everything is good. I actually decided to go with the
weather resistant BundleMe
(http://jjcolecollections.com/weather-resistant-bundleme)
- since I didn't think I would go out in pouring rain.
The bundle me is super comfy, keeps them warm, and
repels water enough to work in fog and drizzle
(combined with the canopy). I even considered the
Arctic Bundleme ;-)
(http://jjcolecollections.com/arctic-bundleme) but
thought that might be a bit much for SF...
