place to look for used strollers. The subscribers are
definitely stroller junkies, but there are some good
deals on rare stroller configurations to be had.

8. C5 Children's School enrolling preschool at a new site
location
--------------------------------------------------------
molly397 - 7/18/2012 11:21 am
My daughter's preschool has opened a new location is
enrolling a large number of new families. My 5.5 yo
daughter has been enrolled at C5 children's school for
5 years (it starts at age 3 mos and goes to
kindergarten). It is a full time program, designed for
families that need full time care. My 10 month old
twins are not yet enrolled due to twin-logistics, but
they will probably eventually go there. I know how hard
it can be to find care for 1, let alone 2, kids -- so
if anyone is interested in infant care or preschool
care -- this might be a good option to check out. It
is located in Civic Center. The original location is in
the state building (with a preference to state
employees) and the new, 2nd location is in the City's
PUC building (with a preference to city employees) -
but there are many spaces in both centers in addition
to government employees. It is a high quality licensed
care facility. It is a Reggio Emilio based program.
The teachers are very well trained. The child-teacher
ratio is on par with other preschools I visited, but
many other preschools include aids and not "full"
teachers in the ratio. All of the teachers at C5 are
equally well qualified. The approach to child
development, health, nutrition, safety, and resolving
conflict have been very good. The snack and lunch
program provided by Chefables is delicious and
outstanding. They do Music Together as part of the
school program. My older daughter has thrived there
for half a decade and will be moving on to Kindergarten
in a few weeks.I am happy to answer specific questions
at molly@tirpak.com, 415 225 8259, but please only ask
questions if you are actually pursuing enrollment
directly with the center. It would be best to ask your
basic questions of the center and then I'd be happy to
talk if you are really considering going there. Most
information can be found here:
http://www.c5children.org/ and you can call the center
directly and ask for Joe Wiseman and he can answer any
other questions. Some of the web site hasn't been
updated about the recent addition of the new center,
but Joe can give you the details. Feel free to tell him
you learned about the center from me.All the best,Molly
Sterkel (Agatha, 5.5 years, Ursula & Matilda, 10
months)

10. Car Seat Configuration in a Honda Odyssey
--------------------------------------------------------
sfteach - 7/18/2012 9:41 am
Hi Wise Moms,We are getting a Honda Odyssey today, and
I am hoping you can help me decide how to place the car
seats. We have one convertible carseat for our
daughter (Britax Marathon), and two infant car seats
for our twins (due to arrive in a month). Some
options:-Daughter and one infant in second row w/
daughter behind driver's seat, and infant next to her
in the middle. The other infant seat would be in the
back row closest to curb side door. We would take out
the second row captain's chair behind passenger
side.-Have all three kids in middle row.-Put infant
seats in second row captain's chairs, and daughter in
third row, middle seat.Ideally, I would like my
daughter in the second row, so we can talk and I can
hear her, but not sure if that configuration is best.
What works for you? Thanks for reading!

We have a Nissan van. My son was two years old when my
twin girls wereborn. I didn't feel comfortable sitting
far away from the newborns thefirst few months of their
lives so we configured as follows: 2 year old ina
forward facing Britax behind the driver's seat. One
infant behind thepassenger seat and the other infant in
the back row. That way I could sitin the back row next
to one of my infants and be very close behind theother
infant. At about 5 months we switched - my oldest went
in the middleback row and the twins in the second row.
My son doesn't mind sitting wayin the back because he
is in the middle and can see everything while
bydaughters 19 months now are still rear facing so he
feels he is privilegedto have his seat this way.On Wed,

You didn't mention how old your daughter was. Perhaps
ask her where she would like to sit. She might like
sitting in the back, in her own "space". It will
definitely be easier to get the infants in/out of the
second row. You'll always need to crawl into the back
seat to unsnap them when taking them out of the car,
and those infant seats get heavy as they start putting
on weight. The other question to ask is, how often will
you be driving alone with the kids? If the babies are
in the 2nd row, you set up mirrors on the headrest so
you can see them in your rear view mirror. If one is
in the 3rd row, you probably won't be able to see them,
and they probably won't be able to see you (when they
get a little older).

When our twins were in bucket seats with bases they
rode in the 3rd row and our singleton rode in the
captain's seat behind the driver. I kept the passenger
side captain's chair folded down so that I could easily
step into the van to access the little boys in the 3rd
row, but it was easy to fold up to use when we had
another passenger.

Hi there and congratulations on making it through the
first 3 months!2 suggestions:Write everything down on
one sheet that you post to the fridge: (1) Your contact
info, (2) schedule (all the details like "6:30: wake,
give 8oz bottle, give Sam 'x' medicine, etc." , (3)
laundry (e.g., any instructions?), (4)
cleaning/supplies (e.g., 1x/month disinfect diaper pail
with Odoban), (5) end of day (anything you would like
done at the end of the day which becomes more relevant
later when play areas need to be tidied up), (6)
Medical/health (e.g., and specifics about
allergies/medicine needed, etc.)This forces you to sort
out your expectations and what is really important to
you and allows the nanny to have something to look at
for the first few weeks when she/he is getting settled
in.Also, make her/him part of the process. The written
doc is a draft -- let the nanny offer suggestions about
how to change things. That way, the nanny is part of
the process and can add invaluable expertise and
perspective. One small thing: discuss food for her,
assuming you are offering her lunch each day. We find
out what our nanny likes then try to have it in
stock.Good luck. Tentmail me if you want to discuss
further

I used the Dwell Studio Savoy glider for tandem
breastfeeding. I loved it! The seat is wide enough and
the armrests low enough that it worked great. I
"modified" my twin breast friend by taking off the
back, the velcro and the straps so I was able to mold
it around my body inside the arms of the glider (kind
of like a giant Boppy). Not a solution for everyone, I
know a lot of people prefer the couch or the floor, but
I really liked how the glider kept us all cozy and
contained. When I tandem fed on the couch I always felt
like someone was going to roll off or the pillow was
slipping. I definitely recommend having a glider for
rocking even if it doesn't work for bf'ing. It was nice
to be able to rock them, especially when they weren't
feeling well. (PS-I'm giving away my modified TMBF if
you're interested).

I SO agree with the above posters - toss that book NOW!
(Toss anything that makes you uncomfortable, or at
least set it aside. Go with your gut!)One thing that
really surprised me was how totally different my babies
were from the instant they were born (even in utero
they had different habits that I STILL see reflected in
them, and they're 3 y.o. now!) You have lots of
different friends/family/pets, etc. that you love now,
right? It's no different, except maybe in depth. The
logistics of raising two little ones simultaneously ARE
challenging... (but this group is an AMAZING resource)
and honestly, the rewards are SO worth it. (I can only
speak from a twim-mom perspective, and I'm sure there
are lots of great things to be said for singletons,
too, obviously -- but I just can't imagine it any other
way!! It's absolutely incredible watching not only 2
tiny people develop and grow, but to watch the
relationship they share, and how it evolves. It's
HILARIOUS watching my girls lately, the complicated
games they invent, and all the fascinating ways they
interact - I feel like I was totally ripped off as a
kid, having had only 1 much-older sibling!! Know
you'll be tired, but that you will love these little
creatures you've already invested so much in. The fact
that you're reading up/cramming already shows you're
there. And a general big-picture thing, about the many
various sources of info for parenting-related stuff --
it's NOT one-size fits all. Just like the clothes on
the rack that SAY they're your size -- some fit better
than others - so save yourself the time and trauma and
MOVE ON to info that suits you better. This is really
the time to start trusting your intuition, cause you'll
have limited time/energy for a while, and shouldn't
waste it second-guessing yourself! My 2 cents (which
you should ALSO feel free to ignore!!) : D
