I have heard that there is a way to check with the city
in person each week as to whether there are openings in
a given school. My sister said that most people she
knows who were persistent eventually got into their
preferred school. You could try that, and homeschool
in the meantime if nothing else works out... Good
luck!

If you don't already have a Counselor assigned to your
case down at the Placement Office, I would go down
there as soon as possible and put a face to a name, and
check in with them regularly. The school secretaries
just started back at school yesterday. Last year, when
one of my twins was assigned a different middle school
from his brother. Once the secretaries were back at
school, they were able to do a count of some kind,
which then opened up spots. Once that happens, it
becomes a domino effect. When openings happen at one
school, that enables those waiting for those open spots
to give up the spots that there were holding, which
then leads to openings for others. My son didn't find
out he would be able to join his brother at the same
school until the Wednesday before school started. The
most important step to take now, is to be sure you have
a Placement Counselor that's aware of your needs and
keep checking in with them...preferably in
person...squeaky wheel.Good luck!

Look unto SF Scoolhouse, a very small private school
started a couple of years ago by about 8 families. It
is like homeschooling in a group.Good luckGedaliaSent

have any assigned schools for our kids. We filed for
medical hardship but it is denied again. There is no
way that we can drive them to other side of the city. I
just don't understand why they have to send us across
the town, since our neighborhood school is only 4
blocks from our home:( Anyone is homeschooling their
kids? How is it working out with you? Please advise?

The rates I have been quoted range from $18-$25. Most
are in the $20-$23 range if you are looking for an
experienced nanny who is fluent in English, has a CA
driver's license, etc.
