to announce a semi-private Breastfeeding Multiples
Class APractical ApproachINSTRUCTOR: Carole Hanson
(Perinatal Educator at UCSF and CPMC)REGISTRATION:
Available for FOUR COUPLES (or 8 spots)COST: $100 per

Many thanks to member Kristen Rampe for forwarding this
article, about the famous "San Francisco Twins" - the
Brown twins, Marian & Vivian. (Article link at the
end of this post.)If you're not already familiar with
them, M&V are the stylish, now-85-year old identical
twins once frequently seen about town, and in
commercials and various other San Franciscana...
They're now separated by Alzheimer's, with Vivian in
hospital, and Marian visiting once or twice a week, as
that it all she can afford.The Club is figuring out how
best to make a donation to help them out (the article
has several suggestions) & I'll keep everyone posted on
what is decided. I wanted to pass the article along
too, in case anyone is interested... maybe some of us
can give her a lift, when headed that way, or
something. (If anyone DOES follow up, please let me
know, if you wish... it would be interesting to follow
up on in a future newsletter.)Let's hope ALL our

What a great idea to help them out... My mom and I met
them once at the Cheesecake Factory in Union Square.
They were sitting next to us and talked our ears off.
Very sweet and interesting women. Little did I know I
would have twins of my own one day.

we got the hard sell 11 yrs ago and we spent a huge amt
of time investigating why we should do it-or not. i
think it plays on the paranoia of new parents to be.
it is expensive and i'm happy we did not spend the
money. instead it may be better to put money into
their college fund! our take was that if you have a
family history of genetic issues then it may make
sense. otherwise, it's a great annuity for the blood
cord bank. one more thing, if the refrigeration unit
goes down at the place your cord blood is stored it is
lost.

We came to the same conclusion as Sheila. Also, it was
a big red flag to me that the national donor registry
won't accept cord blood from twins because of the
chance of

I were having a singleton I would definitely donate to
the national registry.

We went through this dilemma as well. I delivered at
Cornell in New York and the doctors there pretty much
told us it was a waste of money. New York did have a
state run registry where you could store it for free,
but could be accessed by anyone in need (including
you). They advised us to go that route instead of the
expensive private units. Not sure if they have
something similar here in CA. You may want to ask your
doctor his/her opinion.

Hi, I did a lot of research as well and found amongst
other negatives that the field (6 years ago) was highly
unregulated, so your cord blood might be sitting in a
garage freezer at someone's house/facility. Hard to
believe, but possible. May have changed now. Best

YES! We only used the double snap and go for the first
several months. We didn't use their Double Bob until
they were several months old. The kids sleep so much
that you have the luxury of keeping them in the car
seat as you travel from car to stroller, or from
stroller back into the house. I can't imagine not
having the snap & go. Plus, it means they're facing
you and you can keep an eye on them. Lastly, they're
very easy to come by in used condition either through
SFPOM or Craigslist, and they hold their value for
resale. You'll only need it for 2-4 months, but it
will be an extremely important purchase in my opinion.

I've been taking my twin boys to Project Commotion
since they were 18 mo. (now 2 yo). They do really well
there, I think the classes have helped them advance
developmentally. I also like it there because the staff
ratio is good, and they are well trained and very
contentious teachers. Project Commotion is a woman-run
non-profit to boot. They do "little ants" movement and
sensory integration classes for toddlers, as well as
infant, and pre-K
