Hello, I am looking for recommendations on places to
buy a guinea pig for my twins for their birthday. They
have been working very hard to be responsible to get
themselves a pet.

Hi May,Guinea pigs are ADORABLE. I'm a former
house-rabbit owner, so just wanted to let you know a
couple of things since guinea pigs are similar to a
rabbit in some ways.Like rabbits, guinea pigs' teeth
grow constantly, so they will need an unlimited amount
of hay to chew on. The rabbits I had needed to get
their teeth filed down at the vet every 3 months.
Guinea pigs are like this, but you might do more
research about this. I loved my rabbits, but each visit
to get their teeth filed was about $300 each, every 3
months. This is one reason why bunnies die young in
the wild and why they live so long in captivity. One of
my buns lived to be 12! When their teeth poke them,
they stop eating.I've seen guinea pigs at PetSmart in
Daly City and at the Hay/Barn store on Main Street in
Half Moon Bay. We went thru a lot of hay, though I
never bought a bale!Just wanted to let you know this. I
don't want to discourage you, but also wanted to let
you know what might happen. It also depends on the
critter. They may chew so well that their teeth don't
need filing!Good luck!Susan_________________ From: May

Check Animal Connection in the Outer Sunset. They will
tell you everything about pet care - this is not a
franchise but a small business where the owner really
cares about each animal they place. They will let you
come in and handle your pet in advance to get it used
to you if you want. Kelly is the owner - she is very
passionate about it and only hires people who share her
passion. I get my pet food their every week and am a
big supporter. I got all our reptiles and a chinchilla
from this store :)). They also have a great selection
of
parrots.http://m.yelp.com/biz/the-animal-connection-san-franciscoJenia

Oh I forgot about this place! TOTALLY the way the go!
It's a great place just to visit. Another possible
option is the Animal care and control. They have some
guinea pigs there

Not sure if this location will work for you, but we go
to Snippety Crickets near JCC and ask for Raissa. She
is the best!Jenia On Sep 14, 2012, at 11:29 AM,

We just hired cleaners for our 2bed-- they charge $100
for weekly service or $120 for biweekly. They send two
people and it takes about 3 hrs, and it is AWESOME.

Congratulations on making it to 5 months! Breast
feeding twins is extremely challenging, and you should
feel proud of making it this far. I went back to work
full time after 3m and pumped 3x/day for 3m then 2x/day
until they were 1 year old. My job is very busy, so I
just made it part of my routine, despite the
inconvenience. I think if you can just get through the
first month or so and really make it part of your
routine, that is key. It will certainly be hard at
first, but then it just becomes part of your day.
Pumping often is necessary to keep up your milk
supply.Good luck!! And congratulations again on the
wonderful gift you have given your children.

We just got back from a trip with our 10 month olds and
we flew on United. We bought a seat for one if the
babies so we would all get the same row, and because we
thought it might make things easier. It did make most
things easier except we then *had* to bring a car seat.
The car seat was a major PitA. It's big, heavy and has
to be placed as it's used in the car (rear-facing, in
our case), which meant the seat in front of it couldn't
lean back. It also meant we used a lot of time putting
the car seat in the airplane seat, which, if you're
boarding pretty much last (as we did every leg), you
may actually delay departure. We did need a car seat at
our destination, so I'm glad we brought it, but it was
a pain.We had a double stroller that we did gate check;
you just have to make sure it folds. I believe that
United will not a take a stroller that doesn't fold.
The stroller was too big to go through the xray
machine, but we told the security folks, and they hand
examined it with no problems. We allowed ourselves
plenty of time and the security and airline folks were
largely very helpful and accommodating. The twin
celebrity certainly helped, too!
