Hi All, Just curious...we have 9 week old fraternal
twin girls (3.5 weeks adjusted age). I am home alone
with them during the day: I have been feeding them on a
3 hour schedule, but sometimes I let one sleep 45 min
longer. Anyways....I am curious if any of you who
bottle fed experienced this: At the 10,1,4,7 feeding
they are really sluggish and I can barely get 2 ounces
in them. It takes about 1 hour to feed both of them.
Any tips on if this seems normal or if I can do things
to help them would be great. We use Dr. Brown bottles
which when they do eat they do great with. I would say
4/8 feedings a day is a huge struggle to get them to
eat full meals. I am afraid that when they don't eat
full meals they are messing up their sleep. Will this
get better? is it a phase?Also anyone have a sample
schedule they used successfully with there twins. ie
wake times and bathes included.Thanks everyone! I hope

We had the same experience at the beginning. They got
better over time. We are at 7 weeks now and baby boy
uses a think baby bottle, level 3 and he downs his milk
fast! Baby girl takes her time and we have to pace her
, otherwise she stores the milk and spits it out. She
is on dr browns bottles. I am learning that they mature
and learn to suck better over time. I know it feels
like forever but we went from 1.5 hours to 30-45
minutes now (it's 2 of us feeding). I haven't done it
alone yet. I nurse one for 20 min and finish with a
bottle. My husband or mom feeds the other at the same
time. Email me if you have questions- I'm no pro but I
can share my experience. :)

Hi! My identical boys were slooooow eaters around that
age as well. I bottle fed them in their Maclaren
rocker seats, with me sitting inbetween holding
bottles, to at least maximize the hour by feeding both
at once. We also switched to the 3-6 month nipples
just a bit early, which really helped (we used Born
Free and Dr Brown's - they were faster from Born Free
bottles). Turning the bottle and blowing in their
faces to keep them actively sucking was about all that
actually worked for me when I was alone w/ them. They
definitely got better - now at 6 months they are on a
4-hour schedule and using Think Baby bottles. They
drink 10oz in about 15mins - so I promise it gets
easier! Good luck.

If your babies stop sucking on the bottle during their
feeding, have you tried rubbing them on their chin/jaw
line to help them remember to suck? My babies were in
the NICU for a couple of weeks and the nurses would do
that to get them to remember to suck. It usually
worked.

I think the reason people are more active on Facebook
is that it's easier to use in real time. Unless you are
on bigtent multiple times a day, there's a lag between
posting information and other people reading it and
responding to it. For instance, you couldn't post any
same day event and have a reasonable expectation that
people would see it and be able to join you. With the
Facebook group, it's not unusual for someone to post
(for example) "I'm headed to the Presidio Heights
playground at 3pm today if anyone wants to join."If you
haven't seen a Facebook group for your age group, you
should feel free to start one and post about it here to
let people know. I think it's clear - from recent posts
- that lots of twin parents (with kids of all ages!)
would love to get together. It just takes a few
organized/motivated people to get something
started/make some plans, and then other people can jump
in. If you're not interested in doing it on Facebook
you could try to start an email list, but some people
might not be interested in getting a bunch of emails. I
get the frustration with Facebook, but the interface
makes it so much easier to have conversations and make
plans quickly.

We used Hylands and still use them occasionally. I
found them helpful but not a magical remedy - the
relief wasn't instantaneous, but the kids like them
(they're sweetened with lactose) and I figure even a
little relief is good.My kids wouldn't suck on anything
when teething - they didn't want me, a washcloth,
anything frozen, etc. near their mouths. The pills are
sweet enough (I tasted one - it's mild, but definitely
sweet) that they like the flavor, so it was the one
thing we could get them to take that might help. Other
than Tylenol/Advil... but we, too, didn't want to give
that very often.The recall, from my understanding, was
because some pills were tested and found to have higher
than acceptable levels of belladonna. The company
voluntarily recalled the pills and changed the
manufacturing process to ensure more uniform levels. As
far as I know there have not been any reported problems
since they reissued the tablets.

Agree with all PP who recommended aquaphor for the
neck-- the nurse in the hospital said it was basically
inert. We only plan to use desitin for infectious
diaper rash (yeast, bacteria)-- the zinc helps zap
bugs.
