Good News! The next sale has been scheduled for the
last weekend in September at St. Mary's Cathedral.
There will be some changes which we hope will make the
operation of the sale better. We will need lots of
help for having a successful event. The website and
volunteer site will be updated soon.

I live in Bernal Heights and, Claire, the owner of Big
Dipper used to be a part of a collective in my
neighborhood. We often bought her purees for our kids
when they were little. She has since moved on and my
twins (now 2) don't eat purees anymore but, I still get
her newsletters. I noticed today that she is offering
cooking classes. I wanted to put this out there for
the parents of newly eating kiddos.

that age, a member of our playgroup (JJ '11) organized
a cooking class for interested parents. I am sure she
would do something like that...so I just wanted to pass
it along.

Happy New Year Everyone!My husband and I have decided
to take a trip to the east coast to visit family in
February. My twins are just now 13 months old.I guess
my question is, how does this work exactly?!I cannot
fathom the girls staying on our laps for more than 5
minutes at a time. They are total squirmers. Do I get
some kind of travel harness to strap them to our
bodies?I figure we will be up and down the aisles
several times... but are there any tricks to flying a
long flight with twins? Do we take a direct flight? Or
is it better to break it up?Do we check both car seats,
or buy an extra seat to hold one car seat just in case
one of the girls will sit still for five minutes (don't
really want to spend the extra $$)Then once we get to
our destination what is the necessity list?2 pack n
plays for sleeping in2 high chairs2 car seats (do we
need car seat covers to check them at the airport? How
does this work?)Do we use our own car seats in a taxi
to the airport?HELP!I am a nervous flyer anyway, and
this is making the trip slightly more stressful!Thanks

4. Need advice on transitioning to 1 nap

Happy New Year! Our twins are 13 mos and one of them
seems to be ready for 1 nap. She has started sleeping
up to 3 hours for her morning nap on a pretty regular
basis (the nanny gets her down around 10am but I have a
hard time getting her down before 11) and then she
refuses to nap in the afternoon or will fall asleep
really late around 5 which of course totally screws up
bedtime. But her brother is very tired at 10am and 3pm
and falls asleep promptly but usually only sleeps for
about 1.5 hours each. If you work really hard in the
morning you can get him to fall back asleep for awhile
but it's kind of forcing it. Then he might just sleep
for about 30-45 minutes in the afternoon. So what do we
do? Force brother to stay awake until 11 and try to get
him to sleep longer and skip the afternoon nap? Wake
sister up in the morning when he wakes up so she is
tired again in the afternoon? Or just keep dealing with
them being on slightly different schedules for a bit
until he is ready? Of course, I'd love to go to one nap
so we have more time during the day to get out and do
something fun but I don't want to rush it . Our
pediatrician seemed to think it might be a bit early,
but she doesn't see them everyday. Our nanny seems to
change her mind depending on how the day went, as do I!
Would love some advice since I'm sure this is a pretty
common problem!

i just kind of went with it for a month or two, but i
also did that with feedings, sleep, etc...letting the
kids tell me what they need, and remembering that
they're individuals...and, i like making use of the
little bits of one-on-one time. we started
transitioning to one nap around 11/12 months and landed
officially on one nap at maybe 13/14 months. now at
16/17 months, we have it down to science. i get two
hours of downtime a day! hth.

I agree that most days I kind of like that on-on-one
time but I would also love a predictable 2 hour chunk
of downtime!! And more importantly I'd like more time
when everyone is awake, dressed and fed so we can get
out of the house and play! I am feeling pretty trapped
by meals and naps right now. The nanny is able to feed
them on the go but I still find that kind of stressful.
Seems like we only ever have time to make it to the
closest playground and I am sick to death of it. But I
know, it's not for much longer.

Congratulations on your twins!Our home does not have a
suitable table for the clip-on chairs (they don't work
well with thick wood, glass, etc. -- be sure to check).
So, we did what Holly did -- used bouncy chairs until
they were old enough to sit up well (around 1 YO), then
used the Graco Contempo high chairs. The chairs do
take up room but they collapse easily so you can get
them out of the way. They have the removeable tray on
top (a key feature), are easy to clean, light weight,
etc. Plus, a huge thing for us what that the girls
liked being in them and could sit, strapped in, and be
totally happy and safe. That made it so only one adult
needs to be around for meals -- and our tables were not
getting destroyed or crazy dirty.We also have the
Stokke chairs and will be moving to them at about 2.5
years. I am dragging my heels because the high chairs

We opted to buy a more traditional furniture-like high
chair, purchased from Jonathan Kaye (when it was still
in business). It had a detachable tray, and
functioned as a youth chair without the tray. The only
minus was that it wasn't truly functional until the
girls were about a year old. The pluses -- much
smaller profile than most super-adjustable chairs,
looked decent in our kitchen, used as a youth chair
until the girls were nearly 4, at which point we
converted to true youth chairs (just higher than a
standard chair).

We went straight into the Stokke chairs around 5 or 6
mos. We bought one used (including the infant seat and
pad) and used it a few times before buying another one
new on sale on amazon. There is a little attachment for
the back feet that prevents the tipping problem someone
else mentioned. Our twins do push themselves away from
the table when finished eating but have never tipped.
We did end up buying the tray for the new one but the
older model doesn't have that option so yes we have to
clean the table after each use which is a bit of a pain
but pushing it up to the table like a chair saves a lot
of space so it's a tradeoff I guess. We got rid of the
cushion pretty quickly because it was a pain to wash
and find the plastic infant seat and the chair in
general are easy to wipe down after meals. Overall
we're happy with these chairs, especially now that they
are 1 and we are starting to be able to eat meals
together at the table. But they are pricey. Worth it if
we really end up using them to age 4 or 5 but I don't
know yet if that will happen! Good luck and happy new

hi! did you get the swing yet? if not, you may want
to find one that rotates to swing either front-to-back
or side-to-side. one of our girls liked it one way,
and the other the other way. was easy to switch
direction. and the swooshing noise was key. batteries
were fine (lasted a long time, and i no cord across the
floor for me to trip over). our swing was similar to
