1. Powder vs. ready made formula
--------------------------------------------------------
lbwehrley - 1/9/2013 11:04 pm
Hi moms,I'm having to supplement with a little formula
as I'm not quite pumping enough breastmilk (my twins
are not skilled breastfeeders so switched to bottle
feeding exclusively after 2 months.) the boys are now 3
months. Finding the right formula has been tricky as my
twins have sensitive stomachs (gassy, acid reflux,
etc.) I'm totally off dairy which has helped so I tried
soy formula, nutramagin. It smells like a horse & the
boys tend to spit it out (I would too!) I've also tried
similac with rice starch but the milk seems to make
them gassy & fussy. finally, I tried ready-made
Alimentum which has the milk protein broken down to
help with lactose sensitive babies. It seems to have
worked the best, although the still prefer breastmilk.
So I bought the powder Alimentum & they hate it-
spitting it out, making disgusted faces, etc. I had to
run out to the store to buy the ready-made version
again. Did anyone else have this issue? Is there a
reason babies would prefer the liquid ready-made vs
powder? Perhaps they don't have a huge sensitivity to
milk but instead to whatever is in the powder form b/c
previous to the Alimentum, I had only tried powder
formula. Thanks,Laura WehrleyMom to Alex & Tommy, 3

2. Sleep training question
--------------------------------------------------------
leslieb_sf - 1/9/2013 9:03 pm
Is sleep training when you get your babies to sleep
through the night, or is it when you get them to go to
sleep on their own, but they still wake up in the
middle of the night and need to be fed?

3. Recommendations for Video Baby Monitor?
--------------------------------------------------------
rebeccaadaly - 1/9/2013 5:25 pm
We're gearing up for sleep training, and I want to be
sure the little ones are safe and sound. Anyone have a
good recommendation for a video baby monitor,
especially for use at night? Preferably inexpensive.

We use the Motorola and love it as we can use just one
camera and pan the room.

Hi Sarah:We will be in a similar position as well in a
few months and looking for a minimal convertible car
seat that doesn't take up much space for our twins.
Looking forward to what the group has to say about
convertible seats. How long do they last for? Do we do
rear or front facing? We have a city select mini and
got the toddler seats for the stroller so ready from
that side of things.ThanksBhavna

We have some recent experience with both of these
things. We have boy girls twins that are 25 months.
About 3 months ago, our son started climbing out of his
crib at bedtime (literally 20 times in a row), so we
moved to a toddler bed. He sleeps great in it but
bedtime is harder as he wanders around the room,
getting into everything and keeping his sister awake.
We also started putting a gate on their bedroom door to
keep him in. But, overall, not a hard transition for
us/him. We are keeping our daughter in her crib until
we feel we need to transition her. We potty trained
our daughter at around 20 months. She was constantly
taking off her diaper so we pretty much had to. There
are so many approaches so I guess it's hard to know
what will be right for each family. My nanny took the
lead and basically spent the first three days at home,
putting our daughter on the potty every 15 minutes (we
set a timer). We just put undies on her (no pants) and
used a sticker chart as an incentive. The first day
was a mess but then it slowly got better. Over time,
we had to take her less often and now she tells us when
she needs to go. It is a lot of work!! We are
thinking about trying to train our son soon but I don't
know if he's ready. I have heard that people try and
do both twins at once but that sounds so daunting to
me! I'm happy to share more info. Good luck!

We pay our nanny $21/hour, half OTT and half under, and
she works 50 hours a week. No overtime pay. She gets
2 weeks vacation and 1 week sick days, and the normal
holidays. She had no twin experience when she started
with our infant twins and now they are 2. She is about
to turn 26 so I may get the same request. $24 seems
high to me but based on other responses, maybe it's
not. And, good help is worth its weight in gold.

I decided to approach this from the opposite angle -
relax a bit more about it FIRST (so I'm pumping when I
need to or when it's convenient, letting myself be away
from the babies for over 3 hours etc...) and if I need
to give formula I will. Thanks for the feedback! It's
so easy to feel pressure to breastfeed. I'm reading
Bringing Up Bebe and that's helping me mentally -
French women only breastfeed a short time because it's
not "pleasurable" or "convenient" or "sexy" to them!
Don't agree with any of that but oh well it's helping
anyway!

My guys were exclusively formula fed (as were hubby and
me). Boys, hubby and me are all perfect, charming,
funny, and brilliant. :-)Hehehe. Your babies will be
fine. no guilt.

My 11+ month old twins are exclusively formula fed (I
could just never get my milk to come in-incredibly
frustrating process........), they are happy and
healthy (got first colds ever this week!). Agree
breast milk is best but do what's right for you.
