Hi Lisa,We kept our twins in cribs as long as I could
because that was advice I had heard from other parents
of twins to avoid the challenges of getting them to
stay in bed at bedtime or naptime. We didn't try potty
training as early as you are thinking about it, which
allowed for us to have our twins in cribs for longer.
Our cribs could be converted to toddler beds by
basically taking off 1 side of the crib. We did that
when they were almost 3.5 years old. Also, when we potty
trained, we put our kids in diapers at night so even
when they were potty trained, sleeping in a crib was
not an issue. I have boy/girl twins, and my daughter
started potty training right after turning age 3 but
wasn't fully potty trained for a few months. (We
stopped and went back to diapers for a little while.
Then when she was ready, it was a quick transition to
underwear.) My son wasn't potty trained until after
3.5. He just wasn't ready.I learned from talking to my
preschool director that potty training really is easier
when you take the cues from your children. Once each
of my children was ready, it was literally a matter of
days before they could use the potty and not have
accidents. So, I guess I would just say don't push it
if it doesn't seem like it's working. Our twins were
great about staying in bed at nighttime even once they
went to toddler beds. Naps were a little bit harder
for my son, who never took as long as a nap and grew
out of the nap earlier than my daughter. Basically,
once we moved to toddler beds, the transition of
dropping the nap for him started. So, keep that in
mind, too.Lastly, I was glad we had the toddler bed as
a transition because it was still low to the ground,
and our children did fall out of the beds occasionally.
Eventually they learn to sleep without that side of
the crib, but it was good having 3 other sides still.
We moved them to twin size beds as we saw them growing
and knowing they were going to reach the end of their
toddler beds.Hope that helps,Virginia
