2. Bedtime question - bedtime routine and dream feed with CIO?
--------------------------------------------------------
rebeccaadaly - 1/29/2013 7:04 pm
Sort of a long bedtime rant, but...Basically from the
last nap of the day til bedtime (so basically from 4ish
to 6ish), my 4 month old twins are hollering. One is
content hanging out with me on the double nursing
pillow, but not really eating. Bad habit, I know. The
other basically screams despite rocking, holding,
pacifier, bouncing, etc. Finally, they calm down/get
hungry so I can nurse them to sleep.I have visions of a
peaceful, happy bedtime routine, but have no idea how
to get there. Weissbluth suggests that if you start
early enough, you catch the wave of drowsiness, and
ostensibly the babies don't cry from being overtired.
I'm trying but they are already crabby by 4, 5:00! Is
this just witching hour stuff? When does that
end??We're starting CIO Thursday, and I hate the idea
of them being so worked up through the entire lead-up
to bedtime, then finally calming with a meal only to go
back into hysterics. Also, we usually do an 8:30 dream
feed. How do we coordinate that with CIO? I HOPE they
will not be crying for 2.5 hours!!!!! I just don't want
to confuse them.ack, I'm so nervous to do CIO, but
something's got to change. Bedtime is hellish! Any
thoughts/tips?

Hang in there, bedtime will get better, I promise. I
can't remember when mine grew out of the witching hour,
but I feel like you must be right around the corner. My
girls took an evening nap (6-6:30ish) for a while and
when they dropped it and had the long stretch from 4
till bedtime it took them a while to adjust. But they
do. We did CIO sort of by accident around this time. We
have an older child so we had to let the twins cry
while putting him to bed. They don't seem the worse for
wear and have always been better sleepers than the
older one who I rocked to sleep until 9 months (what
was I thinking?) We were given a 1 hour rule by a
sleep consultant we used - if they haven't fallen
asleep by 1 hour you give in and comfort them in any
way you can. But the long stretches of crying don't
last for more than a few days. You can still do the
dream feed. I ended up pushing it later because I was
so glad to have everyone asleep for a few hours.
