2. soccer for 5 year olds

I am considering a spring program for my twin
5-year-olds in a Saturday or Sunday soccer class. We
live in Noe Valley and ideally would like something
close by. I'm open to hearing about any
recommendations you have for classes (even if not near
Noe). My husband and I work full-time so only weekend
options will work for us.The programs I have heard of
thus far are SoccerTots and Soccer Insight. If you
have any good/bad/etc. feedback on either or other
programs to offer, let me know. For SoccerTots, I
wasn't sure if my twins are too old for it even though
they have only taken soccer at their preschool. Anyone
know?Thanks,Virginia

tj_twins - 2/4/2013 2:18 pm
We are looking for a nanny to work on Thursday and
Fridays. We have 4 month-old b/g twins and live in
Bernal Heights. Hours will most likely be 8:30 to 5:30
on those days. There may be a few Wednesday's needed
too. If anyone knows of a part time nanny who is
available please let me know!

4. Vomiting during sleep training
--------------------------------------------------------
MamaWobin - 2/4/2013 12:21 pm
Hi all - hoping someone has gone through this and came
out the other side with some good advice for us!We did
not do any formal sleep training because both of our
twins have always been good sleepers (I know - lucky!).
But a little before their first birthday the boy
starting waking up frequently at night - about every 3
hours. Our pediatrician said he is unable to self sooth
during periods of light sleep so we needed to bite the
bullet and do sleep training (we had been rocking them
to sleep but it only took a few minutes so we didn't
mind.) So we did CIO and the girl took to it right away
- within 3 nights and now she goes down by herself no
problem. But the boy cried for 30 minutes the first
night then vomited all over himself, his crib, the
floor, and into his sister's crib. The next night he
did the same within 5 minutes. We just can't bring
ourselves to try again. So now we still rock him to
sleep and he is still waking up frequently at night at
14 months. Our ped said to just put towels down and
that after vomiting he will eventually fall asleep and
we can simply sneak in and remove the towels. But
really, is that the only option?! I'm wondering if
perhaps it is a developmental stage and we'd be better
off waiting a bit before trying again. But we are
really tired of being exhausted all the time. Any
helpful advice appreciated!

Does anyone have recommendations for gliders, especially
ones large enough for feeding...

Hi Lily,We bought a Dutailier glider & matching ottoman
(small stool really) before my twins were born. We put
it in the twins' bedroom. It was nice to have a place
to rock and soothe them, but I rarely used it for
nursing. Even though we got a wider model, it really
is not suitable for tandem nursing. I found much
better success and comfort nursing my twins on the
couch, where I could place them in a boppy on either
side of me, and then pick them up to put on the
EZ2Nurse pillow.Ultimately, I am glad we had the glider
because it did get use and still does for story time at
night...but not really for nursing. Maybe some others
will have advice for you. For the most part, I think
anyone who tandem nurses tends to do it on a couch, on
the floor or in a bed.Virginia

We used Earth's Best organic - starting supplementing
at 4 months and then on this from 7 months to 1 year
with no problems.

I'm staying home with our 4 month old twins as well. It
is nice to hear other moms doing similar things
throughout the day. In addition to what everyone has
mentioned, I have started going to our library in
bernal heights for a sing song group. The twins are a
little young yet to be too involved but they loved
looking at all of the bigger kids. I would be up for
meeting for a walk as well. We try to go every day.

Just tried something new and thought I'd share. I
started doing discovery baskets for my guys. Just put
3-4 like items in a basket (musical instruments,
cooking tools, etc) and sit them on your lap one at a
time to explore the sound, feel, taste of the items. My
guys like the musical instruments best, but empty
containers are a close second. :o)

Thanks for all the great ideas! I'm also at home with
my 8 month old (6.5 corrected) girls - for the time
being. I love reading to my girls, but they are much
more interested in munching on their board books than
paying attention to me! So, after reading a few short
books to them, I plop the girls down in front of their
"library" so they can grab whatever board book they
want to munch on while I read Where the Sidewalk Ends
to them (a collection of silly poems - a favorite of
mine as a kid!). The point is, you can read whatever
you want to them, they just love to hear you talk! I'd
also love to meet up for a walk! We're in Russian Hill,
and usually walk to Fort Mason or to the Palace of Fine
Arts, but we're mobile and wouldn't mind walking
somewhere new.

The witching hour is exactly what you are experiencing.
It's tough on everyone since you as parents are also
really tired by that time of day. Not much you can do
about the crabbiness at that time except for focusing
on good sleep habits at times when they are supposed to
be sleeping. At that age, we did still 'dream feed'
our twins. But we did it much later than you -- more
like 10:30 or 11:00 PM. That way, our twins had been
solidly sleeping for several hours. We would keep them
swaddled while we dream fed them, in low lighting and
not talk a lot. We'd then have no trouble putting them
back to sleep. We kept up the dream feed until they
were 6 months. I definitely think you can try CIO
while still doing a dream feed. It will help your
twins learn good sleep habits. I'll never know if we
just got lucky with good sleepers or if our diligence
in these regimens created good sleepers but now at age
5, my twins are still really good sleepers and go to
bed pretty quickly on their own. So, keep it up! It
will get easier.
