1. Nanny late due to public transport - what's the protocol?
--------------------------------------------------------
bhavna12 - 2/5/2013 11:57 am
Public transportation was delayed this morning and our
nanny was 30 min late. What's the protocol? Does she
leave 30 later than usual or it doesn't make a
difference? I can understand, it happens. I just don't
want it to happen all the time and then uses public
transport as an excuse. I don't think she would, but I
don't want to tempt her to do that either. We have
guaranteed her a set number of hours each week so her
pay is the same if we let her leave a bit early.
Thoughts?

we guarantee my nanny a certain number of hours a week
too, but she generally works about 12 hours over that
anyway. So when she is late, I still let her go at the
same time and i just end up paying her half an hour
less for that day. but if she won't meet her minimum
hours due to this late morning, I would "bank" those 30
minutes and ask her to come early one day when you need
her early, or stay late, or whatever. I don't see why
you have to use it today if you don't need her to stay
late today. You might want to make it a policy. If she
knows that showing up 30 minutes late means she owes
you 30 minutes some other time, she will probably try
to avoid doing it.We generally give my nanny a 10
minute grace period. And I calculate hours by the 15
minutes.

hello Moms, I went back to work on Jan 7th, the babies
are now 5 months old but I am having really hard time,
I can not focus and my work requires my brain
power...it is one month now I am back and things are
not getting better. I am getting really down depressed
I cant function as I used to and I have a lot of
pressure. Is it normal? will my brain eventually start
to work again, when? or shall I plan to switch career?
what is the experience of other working moms? what can
I do? I am still pumping 5 times a day maybe is the
milk production that interfere with brain functions...I
plan to give them my milk for another month ....thank
you all

Hi Susanna,I went back to work part time after 6
months. It was HARD! I felt I could not put my 100% at
home AND at work. I was a basket case. It took me
about a year to finally figure out the balance. I had
to accept that I could not do everything. So, I was
okay delegating work, letting the vacuuming go. We
over-relied on take out food at home. We're much better
now, but in the beginning....you just have to do what
you can and not beat yourself up about it. Good luck!
It's not easy. Plus it's hard to be away from the
little ones! Susan_________________ From: Susanna Rosi

Hopefully your experience will be different from mine,
because I had a horribly difficult time returning to
work. I spent the first month doing what felt like
shaking cobwebs from my brain. After that, I was at
least back in the game and performing at work, but I
wasn't (and am still not, 3 years later) anywhere near
my performance level before kids. I now lack the
drive, energy and focus that I used to have an
abundance of. I have to post sticky notes and write
to-do lists or I forget about major, huge, important
things. After two years, I looked it up online
(googling "baby brain") and found that there are
definitely medical reasons why we have baby brain while
we're pregnant, and perhaps while we're nursing, but
there are no medical reasons why we would still have it
as late as I still do. I think for me it's a
combination of sleep deprivation, precious little free
time for myself, and a general lack of enthusiasm for
work (which I used to have) simply because there are
way too many other important things going on in my life
now. I agree with the above post that you've got to
make as many things at home as easy as possible - a
cleaning service, hopefully a nanny who also does
laundry, and simple, simple dinners. We lived off of
the Bertollis frozen bag meals for at least 2 years.
You've got to conserve your energy and focus wherever
possible. I wouldn't change careers yet, there are
tons of twin moms out there with high power jobs. Give
yourself a little more time, and definitely cut
yourself some slack. Ask for help from colleagues, and
if you feel safe enough be honest with colleagues about
what you're battling. Wishing you all the best!

What about Soccer Kids? It is more straight-up soccer
skills, as opposed to the way Soccer Tots is designed.
We liked Coach Shawn, who will be teaching at Rossi
Park this spring. (we did NOT like Coach Tim, but he is
at Julius Kahn, so its pretty far away from you
anyway).

Sorry you are dealing with this hard situation, I dont

our babies and found her to be very helpful. You could
even just try doing a brief phone consultation with
her?

Okay, so when I found out I was pregnant with twins
rather than another singleton, I did a ton of research
on double gliders, chair-and-a-half and love seats.
There were only a small number of true double gliders I
could find. I ended up special ordering this one:
http://www.shopfourseasonsfurniture.com/sc-ac45dg.htmI
really like this glider, it is super comfortable, can
definitely accommodate my girls on the My Breast Friend
nursing pillow while tandem nursing. It fits two adults
side by side seated, however my husband is very large
so it is a tight fit for us....I imagine it would be
fine with two normal sized adults though. ;)There are a
TON of fabric options and choices for the glider and it
can be either upholstered or slip covered. Tent mail me
if you want more info or would like to see pics of
mine. It was definitely money well spent for us, I use
it multiple times a day/night.

We also used Earth's Best. I did a lot of research, and
actually thought that Baby's Only had the best
ingredients, but for a couple of different reasons we
decided to go with Earth's Best. I'd be happy to share
my thoughts if you're interested, but I think it's a
little too much to include here. Message me if you to
chat more about it One other thought: if your kids have
been on Similac, they could get constipated when you
make the switch to another formula. Corn syrup - the
sweetener in most major brands - has a natural laxative
effect, so if your kids are used to that, and you take
it away, they might get backed up.When we first
switched from Similac to Baby's Only the kids got
REALLY constipated. Then we switched back to Similac,
and then made a gradual switch to Earth's Best (mixing
the two formulas for a while) and they were fine.

Breast milk and cow's milk also have more sugar than I
would have thought, and the ingredients in baby formula
can make your hair stand on end. I don't know how much
difference "organic" makes given what goes into it, so
I would focus more on what you baby digests easily. We
had issues with constipation with Similac and some
other brands, but our girls have been on Gerber Protect
for a few months now and seem to be doing great in that
department. (It could just be that their digestive
tracts matured at about the same time we switched, with
babies, who knows??) Good luck--all of this guesswork
can be frustrating, can't wait for the girls to be on
100 real food!
