1. How long to breastfeed?
--------------------------------------------------------
bhavna12 - 2/6/2013 1:28 pm
Hi all:I'm curious how long most twin moms breastfeed.
I understand there are various reasons and perspectives
on this topic so open to hearing all ideas. My twins
are going to turn 6 months in 2 weeks and I'm not sure
how long I want to continue for. Do they benefit from
breast milk as they get older the same way they do when
they are younger? My production has definitely
increased over the last 1-2 months and I'm in a groove
but it does take quite a bit of energy sometimes to
pump at work.

bhavna12 - 2/6/2013 12:20 pm
Hi all:Hope the week is going well. Just wanted to ask
the twin parents their opinion on some sleeping issues
we are having with our 5.5 month old boy. Our girl is
sleeping just fine, just took out her swaddle on Monday
for the first time and sleeps through the night. We put
them down around 8 and she sleeps until 630-7. As for
our son, he's a fighter when it comes to sleep. He
usually, sleeps at 830ish after his last feed (which is
around 730-8pm) and starts whining (not full on crying)
at 2am, we go to his crib and just comfort but if he
starts to full on cry we will take him out and rock him
to sleep and put it him back in the crib. We do that so
we don't wake up his sister. After 2am, he wakes again
at 4am and at that time, his eyes are usually wide open
so we bring him to our bed and he eventually falls
asleep after some comforting (pacifier and putting our
hand on his chest). He then wakes at 630-7 so we are
pretty much in/out of sleep through the night. What do
you all suggest? I'm out of ideas. Our night nanny has
suggested we try the Ferber method of Sleep training
and she would be willing to help with it. We never
introduced dream feeds and our drs and nanny has said
to not introduce that since we will be taking a step
back. He's not a big sleeper throughout the day, total
naps 3, sometimes 4 which total to less than 2 hours
total for the whole day.

Just to be clear, we don't have a night nanny but still
very close to her so we call her for advice every now
and then. We have a day nanny and her recommendation
has been to let him cry it out. She noticed he does
like to sleep on his stomach throughout the day. We
still swaddle him at night (unlike his sister) because
he moves around so much and his movement might affect
him during the night. Anyway, open to suggestions.
Thank you!

If it happens on occasion, then I feel like there's
really nothing that can be done on either her part or
yours. It's almost like an "act of god." Unless it
happens every week and becomes an excuse. But MUNI &
BART and all public transit fails with regularity.
Sometimes I can't get home from work on time either due
to traffic. It all comes out in the wash.

I agree, our public transport seems to fail pretty
often. I just don't want this to become regular. She is
strict with her hours. She doesn't want to work more or
less than 50 hrs so I'm still paying her for 50 at a
minimum. Thanks!

This happens occasionally with our nanny and we do not
expect her to stay late. However she is very flexible
about occasionally staying 15 min or so late if we are
in the middle of a conversation about the day or if
we're delayed due to public transport ourselves and we
dont pay her extra for that. We also let her leave a
bit early if we're home and things are calm so I figure
it all balances out and as far as I know she has no
complaints! I suppose if your nanny is very strict
about her time then you have the right to be too and
ask her to stay 30 mins late.

I am just starting to feel like my brain is getting
back to normal-the twins are 14 months. I went back
when they were 4 months then got laid off when they
were 7 months (my whole department, not just me!). So
that gave me the opportunity to find a temp gig which
is only 4 days a week and leas stressful (at that time
there was NO way I could have started a new job at my
previous level). We're still having sleep issues with
one kid so sleep deprivation is still an issue. I think
I started to feel a lot better after I stopped
breastfeeding at 8 months. But I think a big part of my
problem was/is a lack of passion about my job/career.
Friends of mine who are really passionate about their
work had a much easier time returning. I find I just
don't care about it much anymore and it's hard to
motivate. But now that I am feeling like I have an
attention span again I am looking for something new in
hopes that I can find something I ammore passionate
about and holds my interest better throughout the day!
I guess basically I am saying give it some more time.
Especially if you are going to stop breastfeeding soon.
I think that does make a difference!

How about meeting in Golden Gate park near the

work for those who want to meet up?

Works for me, I may be a few minutes late. I will
either come solo or I may bring my nanny with the
twins. not sure if I am ready for a car trip alone
yet.

Just seen this post - my twins as nearly 4 now but I
remember that stage well! I used to use a lot of the
stuff around me for stuff to do. Have you tried filling
empty boxes and cans with different dried foods, like
beans and pasta and letting them shake and roll them?
Mine used to love watching me bake cakes and cookies
and I used to let them eat a bit of the mixture off the
spoon - amazing big smiles and wide eyes on both! Sure
that's why they love baking with me so much now!
Different coloured play-do with cookie cutters, or in
early stages just to squeeze in their little hands. Tie
coloured wool to sticks so they can pull and stretch
it. Music and a dance always a favourite and definitely
a walk every day- for them to get fresh air and a nap
and me for cake and coffee!
