We are planning on sleep training our twins using the
Ferber method. (They each wake up 3 times/night for
feedings). Their cribs are right next to each other.
Needless to say I'm nervous about doing it, but I am
wondering for those of you who have done this with
twins how it went. Thanks in advance!

Our fraternal girls are 19 months now. They've always
shared a room. Cribs side by side, like yours. How old
are your children? My best suggestion is to wean the
kids off night feedings before doing any kind of CIO.
That you way you feel confident they're not crying for
food. Which gave me some peace of mind.We approached
night weaning (bottles/formula, not breast) by doing
dream feeds. Have you done those? Once I started
doing dream feeds (quietly in the dark, sitting in a
chair in their room, one at a time, then laying the
first back into her crib without waking, then feeding
the next one, then laying then her down, then bed for
me!) from 10-11pm, our girls would sleep through the
night, i.e., from 8pm-5:30am or so.The dream feed
eliminated the 3am feed for us. Once I couldn't take
doing the dream feed any longer is when we moved to
CIO/modified CIO. I was falling asleep feeding the
girls. I was exhausted. My husband and I agreed
jointly to our method (critical, IMO!). The girls
cried for a while the first night (much less than an
hour). They cried for 15-20 mins the second night.
Then 5 minutes the third night, then done. Our girls
were 3.5-4 months (adjusted) when we started the dream
feeds, and around 4.5 months (adj) when we did CIO. We
co-slept with them up to 3 months. Around 3 months we
started using the cribs at night (we'd used them for a
while during the day for naps already). Another thing
we did... I couldn't stand to put them down for the
night crying. So, for months post-CIO, I always put
them to bed at night sleepy/sleeping. I worked on
putting them down in their cribs awake a naptime to
teach self-soothing. Once they consistently
self-soothed to go down for naps (around 7-8 months),
putting them down at night awake fell into place. Hope
this helps. If you have any questions, I'm happy to
try to help further. Best, Jen

3. Pediatric Dentist

It's time for the first trip to the dentist! I'm
looking for recommendations - especially in the
Mission/Bernal/Potrero Hill neighborhoods. And, I'm
wondering if the dentist is like the doctor and really
requires both parents to be there. I'm sure we'll both
go to the first appointment together and feel it out
but I'm just curious.

We just went to KidSmiles on Ocean off 19th Ave. The
hygienist Aida was GREAT with my son who has a history
of crying and dreading the dentist. He was smiling
after she was done which is unheard of in his 6 years!
I've heard Dr. Wong is extra special with the kids,
though we ended up with Dr Azama who was nice too. She
didn't spend a lot of time with the kids. The
interesting thing is they put the two in chairs at the
same time, not one at a time. They had their cleanings
at the same time. Then waiting one by one for the
dentist.Overall a great visit for them! We're pleased
and will go back in 6 months to try Dr.
Wong._________________ From: Robin To: 'San Francisco

One thing I forgot. We brought one of the kids'
favorite movies. They were focused more on the movie
during their cleanings which helped A LOT!They have a
selection from which you can choose, or you can bring
your own DVD._________________ From: Susan Wong Caulder

We need someone to help us choose appropriate plants
for the front of our SF Edwardian. We are looking for
someone who has a good eye for colors so that the
plants will go well with the colors of the house. Any
recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks/Marianne

I recommend Melinda Rose of Botanika Gardens. She

I just interviewed Dr. Pickering yesterday, and she was
really great. She seemed nice and low-key, and overall
a very easy person to talk to. Their practice (Pacific
Pediatrics) has a member of their team on rotation at
CPMC California at all times, so if you are delivering
there, your babies will be well-attended during their
stay. They also participate in CPMC's pediatric
after-hours clinic (PERC), so while it's a bit of a
drive to the California Campus, it's nice to know you
have good options 24/7. Logistically, the practice
seems well-located if you're in the Noe/Bernal/GP area,
and their parking garage had plenty of spaces for $4/an
hour. However, traffic-wise, I still found it to be a
bit of a pain, as there is no fast way to get there.
You are on surface streets with stop signs or lights
the entire time, and you have to cut through the heart
of the Castro to get to the Davies campus. I timed the
trip home (around 5:00 pm), and it took 20 minutes from
their office via Dolores to our home in Bernal (3
miles). When we go to CPMC, it usually takes the same
or less time because we can take Fell or
O'Shaughnessy/Laguna Honda quickly across the city. We
are going to try the Daly City option next that Judy
mentioned above. I just have to think 13 minutes via
280 seems like a better option if you have two
screaming and/or sick babies than 20 minutes in
stop-and-go in the city.

Dana Underwood is an amazingly talented photographer
who has great rates. He's actually a Stanford MBA who
just happens to do this on the side, but his work is
quite incredible. He has taken photos for numerous
friends, and we already have him lined up for when our
twins are due in April. You can see his work with kids
and babies here:http://www.danaseye.com/kids/
