1. Baby led weaning: when does the food actually start going
into the mouth?

We started baby-led weaning a couple of weeks ago.
Tonight I noticed no food going in, but there was sweet
potato and squash everywhere else-- one of the twins
had it on her leg warmers, every other piece of
clothing and pretty much every limb. And yes, her face
was adorably orange.So...for those of you doing BLW or
who have done it in the past, when do they start
actually eating? The kids are an adjusted 6.5 mos
now.Alessandra

3. Balancing solids and milk

Our b/g babies are 6 months today and for the last
couple of days I've been giving them 1/2 Tablespoon of
avocado at their 11:30 feeding time. I first give them
3 oz of breast milk each, followed by the avocado, and
then 4-5 oz of formula (depending on which baby).
Sometimes they finish the formula and sometimes they
don't. I understand they should still get all of their
nutritional needs from milk, and the food is more for
taste, texture, and habit than nutrition --or at least
that's what I've been told.I have a couple of questions
and could use some collective wisdom:1. We've been
holding them during the feeds, should I put them in
their bumbo chairs for the solid feed portion? Our son
can sort of hold the bottle, but our daughter can't
yet. Is it too much jostling around to hold for the
breast, bumbo for solid, and hold for formula? Our son
tends to spit up unless he's burped really well.2.
When do I increase their solid feeds to more than once
a day? Also, how much do I give them if all their
nutrition is supposed to come from the milk? Should I
decrease their milk consumption? By how much?3. How do
allergic reactions manifest? Neither has had any
obvious reactions but it's only been a few days.
Thanks!

We are offering 25/hr OTT blended rate (40 hrs + 10 hrs
OT), plus a health care stipend. She cooks, does light
housekeeping, drives, has several years of experience
and is bilingual (speaking to the kids solely in the
foreign language).
