We'll be in the East Coast from Monday the 25th to
Monday the 1st. I previously bought a travel crib when
the babies fit together, but that is not the case
anymore! Before I order a second one, does anyone have
one I can borrow for next week?Thank you!Alessandra

Our 6.5 b/g twins have been eating avocado, squash and
green bean puree for the last couple of weeks. They
open their mouths wide and seem to really like it. A
couple days ago, I heard about Baby Led Weaning and am
thinking our kids might like it given their response to
food thus far. But, I'm so intimidated by it all. We've
just got the meal feeding routine down (although I've
been thinking of tweaking that) and our daily schedule
and I'm just scared and frankly tired of having to
rework an entire new routine/schedule. Plus, for the
next month we're in a hotel (our house is getting
ready) and there's carpet everywhere. The hotel has a
kitchen but we don't have high chairs yet (we've been
feeding in their bjorn bouncy seats).Anyway, blah blah,
sorry for the venting...but maybe it makes better sense
to wait until we move into the new house before
starting a new routine (including the BLW). Ok, so
that just allows me to procrastinate and get more
nervous. What experiences do you have with BLW twins.
What foods did you start out with and what kind of
schedule did you use?Thanks!

We got one twin into Alvarado, our local school and #1
choice (Yeah!). The other is in a school not on our
list (Cesar Chavez). We didnt check the twin box and
we're gearing up for Rounds 2+ assuming that we'll have
sibling priority for the next rounds (can anyone
confirm if this is true?). We're happy with the
outcome. Hate the process. I now understand why
people move! Not just going to your local school is
frustrating in so many ways...DaleCaroline & Samantha

Congratulations, Dale, on getting your # 1 choice for
one of your girls! That is great news! I think you
will have sibling priority for your 2nd girl, but a
good resource to check with is Parents for Public
Schools. They are having counseling sessions on the
round 2 process this week:Thurs, March 21 from
5:00-7:00 PMorSat, March 23 from 9:00-11:00Both
sessions are at Education Placement Center, 555
Franklin St.We also got Alvarado (General Education,
not Spanish Immersion) for both of our twins. It is
our attendance area school. It was # 5 on our list of
10, but we liked our top 5 schools almost equally so we
are very pleased. We did check the twin box as we did
not want any chance of our twins being split up.We also
applied to 6 independent schools and were accepted at 3
of them: Alta Vista School, Marin Preparatory School
and San Francisco Day School. We feel like we hit the
jackpot and are stunned. We haven't made our decision
yet of where we will go but it is likely it will be
Alvarado as we are not sure we can afford private
school tuition for 2 kids for 9 years (and that is
before we get to high school!)I wish everyone good luck
in round 2 or in their decision making process. This
is definitely not an easy process.I think we should
re-ignite the kindergarten night that POM used to host
in the fall where there was a panel of parents who have
twins in elementary school. I remember going years ago
and learning a lot from them about where to start the
process. I would be happy to be on such a panel and
pass along what I have learned just like parents did
for me.

Congratulations Virginia! I love reading stories like
yours. We havefriends at Alvarado and they truly love
the school. The fear of our boysbeing split is what
caused us to move last year before we
startedkindergarten last fall. I'm so happy that it
worked out for you! Goodluck with your
decision!!-Florence BrayOn Tue, Mar 19, 2013 at 9:46

Funny, Alvarado was our first choice for both of the
twins - and the unchecked box was supposed to increase
our chances of getting at least 1 of the twins in one
of our top choices. And yes, like for Dale, the
strategy was to use sibling priority for subsequent
rounds, as you do get it after you register 1 twin to
the school of your choice. But we knew it was a long
shot since Alvarado is not in our attendance area. In
any case, we will try our chances in the subsequent
rounds (low probability of success but worth it just in
case). For now we are going to keep our twins in the
Montessori school they go to in the
Penninsula...Congrats to you who had some success and I
would love to meet up with other parents who have twins
in Kindergarten like Virginia suggested.

Dale and others, please remember to register at your
assigned school, even if you are going through with
Round 2. Having an assigned spot can only help you
(even if it's a school you don't intend to
attend). Those who do NOT have an assignment and
participate in subsequent rounds are placed AFTER those
who are looking to swap for a higher choice.Dale, your
second daughter will have a sibling priority. Siblings
are the "third" group in the priority "pecking order".
A certain number of spots are saved for foster children
because of the transient nature of their unknown living
arrangements. Then comes placement of children who
request to attend a particular school because of a
medical or family hardship. Historically speaking in
the past few years, there have been very few cases that
have been approved. Now, depending on which program at
Alvarado your first child got into, Spanish immersion
or General, may affect her status (unless she speaks
fluent Spanish). Let me explain. For the immersion
strands in most schools, they try to create a balance
of 50% native speakers in the immersed language and 50%
non-speakers. So, if your first got into the immersion
program, a non-sibling child who speaks Spanish may get
in ahead of your waiting child, if that particular
class needs a native speaker.Whatever you do, keep
going in the process. My boys went through the process
a couple of years ago before the elementary school
feeders were in place. They got assigned to two
different middle schools, and it wasn't until a week
before school started that the second twin got in. The
system definitely got better last year so things should
work out for your second child. In general, I will just
add this comment. San Francisco Unified is an open
school district which means your family can choose from
over 70 elementary schools. Everyone's family
situation is different, depending on where they live
and work, i.e. not all families wish to attend their
neighborhood school. I know of families who have their
children attend school closer to their workplace rather
than home so they can more easily participate in school
activities or reach a sick child faster. My attendance
area school does not offer an immersion program, so I'm
grateful that I have the option of choosing a school
within the district that does. In Kaska's case, in the
eyes of the District, they assigned you schools within
your top 10 listed, which for a lot of families, is a
pretty good outcome. You still have options to
participate in future rounds to try and get one of your
higher ranking choices, but please remember to register
your children so they have a guaranteed spot. Here's a
link to some of the highlights of this first round,
http://www.sfusd.edu/en/assets/sfusd-staff/enroll/files/2013-14/2013-14_enrollment_highlights_.pdfYou
can check to see if the list of highly requested
schools matches some of the ones on your list, which
could explain how you got your 9th and 10th requested
schools.Good luck to all!

I have 5 year old B/G twins and they are in the same
room. They shared a crib until 7 months and have been
in the same room ever since. We have a 3 BR home and
use our 3rd bedroom for guests, especially my parents
who don't live in the area but like to come visit
several times a year. Like one of the other parents
who posted earlier, I don't want to lose that guest
room, so we will likely keep our children in the same
room for as long as feasible. They don't know any
differently and I think they enjoy being in the same
room. Many if not all of their friends from preschool
who have siblings share their bedrooms, too, regardless
of age or boy/girl.I think we'll keep them together
until one of them says something or until they feel
uncomfortable together. I know of other brother/sister
combinations that have been in the same room (not
twins) for a long time, too.
