1. Different Nap Schedules - 6 months
--------------------------------------------------------
rebeccaadaly - 4/1/2013 7:47 pm
My 6 month old boys are finally (!!) napping in their
beds. We have a fairly consistent morning wake up time
and start time for the first nap. I'm also strict about
not letting them sleep past 4:30 so we can get to bed
at 7pm. However, they wake up from the morning nap at
really different times - like 30-60 minutes different.
One has always needed more sleep than the other. It
leaves me a bit puzzled as to how to deal with the
middle part of the day. We've also just started solids,
so I'm trying to formulate some kind of schedule that
is consistent.Do you always wake your babies up at the
same time? How much difference do you allow? Anyone
going for alternating nap times? I would do it (might
be nice to have 1-on-1 time), but I don't know how we'd
ever leave the house. Also, how long are your 6 month
olds awake before going down for the next nap? Thanks
for the input!

hello parents, my husband and I are venturing on our
first air travel with the twins this week. any advice
for keeping the babies entertained on our laps for 5
hours(!)?? I'm kind of freaking out about it. I hope
I can get them to sleep but not that optimistic since
they usually sleep in cribs or carseats and will be on
our laps. All advice welcome.

Some great tips that either we figured out ourselves or
learned on these boards:-Bring the strollers to the
gate and check at the gate. We found that using 2
single strollers was easier than the double stroller
(we tend to have something break when we use something
other than a single stroller). -If you use the double
stroller, purchase a long velcro strip to hold the
stroller together (i.e. tie the wheel bar to the side
bar of the back of the stroller).- Bring a carrier
(i.e. Moby or Ergo, etc). You can wear your baby as
long as you don't fall asleep.- Time their feed so that
they are just hungry enough to want to have a full feed
when you are taking off.-Sit in the back of the plane
near a bathroom.-In your diaper bag, have a seperate
zip lock for one of the babies that you can give to the
other person carrying one of the twins. The zip lock
has 2 diapers, some separated wipes (for 2 uses), a
snack (i.e. Gerber crunchies or banana, 2 teething
sticks, a onsie or romper, and a milk.-Bring your iPad
that has Mickey Mouse (or equivalent) downloaded on
there (buy on iTunes, etc). If wifi is not available,
you can always play it. If you buy a DVD, it has 3
episodes back to back. -Fly out of the Virigin
Terminal at SFO. They have a newer play area for
kids.Good luck!

A few more suggestions I just thought of.....- Pack the
baby food that comes in packs (like Plum or
equivalent). It was less messy/bulky and you can close
it easily. The biggest trouble was getting through
security when the babies couldn't stand by themselves.
What we encountered:- Any bottles that have milk in it
(i.e. breastmilk or formula) will need to get checked
individually (i.e. you'll get pulled aside). - So
consolidate the bottles (and liquids) to 1 person's bag
so the other person can take care of getting the
stroller or strollers & belongings off of the table.
The other person would have 1 or both babies while
waiting for security to call someone to check your
"open" milk bottles. - Water doesn't get checked.

6. Double Lightweight or Umbrella Stroller Suggestions
--------------------------------------------------------
Erin0919 - 4/1/2013 8:27 am
In the next few months we will be growing out of our
Double Snap and Go and wanting a lightweight
alternative to our Double Bob. Any suggestions on
lightweight stroller options from some parents with
older children. The ideal is something that is sturdy
but won't break my bake and soul every time I try to
get it in and out of the car. Thanks!

People seem to love the Maclaren double. I personally
decided on two single Bumbleride Flites and love using
them. I attach them with stroller links on occasion,
but most often wear one kid and push the other (or have
a friend push the other if going on a joint outing).
11lbs each and they have a handy carrying handle. They
also both fully recline, which was essential for me as
we often nap on the go.

Thank you! When you do clip them, did you find a
certain type of stroller clip works best?

I use these, though I don't have anything amazing to
say about them. They do work though.

One last questions. What age were your twins when you
transitioned them from the carseats to this version?

Around six months - I hated the double snap-n-go :).
They fit in their infant carseats until 9-10months.

If you want even closer we went to Cavallo Point (50%
off on Sunday nights for locals...) and it was great.

I really liked the Westin in Napa (across from the Wine
Train). The rooms were very comfy. I would equally
recommend The Vintage Inn in Younteville - great,
spacious, comfy rooms, there was air conditioning
(which the boys appreciated since they are total "city
boys", and the room includes a yummy buffet breakfast
and afternoon tea time plus cheese hour. I would
recommend a bottom floor room on the outskirt (near the
parking lot). It was convenient in loading and
unloading and it was a nice stroll for the kids to
breakfast. There is also a fantastic spa at this
resort. We have also stayed at Embassy Suites w/ the
kids in Napa - rooms are just "ok" but the room
included breakfast.I also liked bringing the kids to
Monterey and stayed at the Intercontinental. Rooms
were fantastic had a fireplace room and lit fireplace
when the kids went down to sleep. Food was good in
their restaurant and it was steps away from the
aquarium. Some things to keep in mind are elevator
access (if you're staying in a place that has multiple
floors and are using a stroller), space in the room for
kids to crawl around (and for the stroller), and
breakfast included was a time saver.Good luck!

We took the kids for our first weekend away together
when they were about 6 months old. We went to
Mendocino, and had a great time. It's more like a 4
hour drive, but we split it into two parts, and stopped
for lunch and some playtime in the middle. We left just
before their first nap, and they slept in the car. Then
we stopped in Healdsburg and ate at a brewery - classy
with the kids, right?! But it's really family friendly,
and they had an enclosed porch and the kids did really
well. (And we actually ran into another set of twins
eating there only a month older than ours.) After lunch
we let them roll around a little in the town square -
grass, leaves, pretty open space. Then we got back in
the car, and they had their second nap in the car, and
we got to the place we were staying around their dinner
time. We stayed at a place that has one bedroom
cottages, with kitchens. We were able to put them down
and then shut the bedroom door and fix our own dinner,
etc. We slept in the same room, but could have slept in
the living room if we wanted separate rooms. During the
day we went for hikes, played in our cottage, and had
lunch at another brewery. Mom and dad like their
beer!I'm happy to tell you where we stayed if you'd
like the info - we love the place. Our kids weren't
really sleeping well yet by then (we hired a sleep
consultant shortly after that) but otherwise we had
such a good time. Have fun!
