1. Postpartum modified bedrest :( helper or doula?

Hi there,We are happy and excited to announce the birth
of our twins, Alexandra and Thomas on April 3rd! Babies
were delivered at 38w 2d via scheduled c-section and
they were huge: 7 lbs even and 7 lbs 9 oz,
respectively. Unfortunately, I developed some
complications and am back in the hospital for surgery
exactly a week afterward, and must stay for two nights.
Once home, I am going to need help, as I am not
allowed to lift anything, not even a baby.I had a great
session with a post-partum doula already this week
before the complication, and babies were both latching
and feeding well.My question is, based on your
experience, during the two-week modified bedrest
portion, do you think I need a post-partum doula, or
would a mother's helper suffice? We will have a night
doula 4 days per week, but I will need daytime help
with feeding, diapering, baby laundry, tidying up, etc.
I also have the very popular Regula Keller coming in
two days over the next two weeks to provide day doula
care and support (her only free days).Since we are
looking for full time support, it would be great to
understand if we can get by with someone who is $15-20
an hour, instead of $35-40 an hour. Also, any
suggestions as to who might be good for this would be
very much appreciated! Thanks in advance,Liz, Jesse,
Alex and Thomas Johannesen

We used both Peg Perego Primo Viaggio's and a Graco
Snugride. We also used a Double Snap & Go, single Snap
& Go + carrier, & now use either our Bumbleride Indie
Twin (LOVE) or 2 single strollers - Mclaren & Peg
Perego Aria (these were my older daughter's). REVIEWS:
Please keep in mind that during the course of the pg,
my pelvis separated in the front so it was (and still
is) very hard to carry heavy equipment. Peg Perego
Primo Viaggio - PROS: I absolutely LOVE this carseat!!
We used an older model for my older daughter & bought a
newer model for one of the twins. It is a plush seat
that both boys loved. I tend to have smaller babies and
this carseat helps "snugle" them in. You can always
remove padding as they grow. I loved the purple color
and my boys do not sweat in it. I also preferred the
handle lock & handle bar (vs. Graco). WAY easier to
adjust. CONS: It tends to be a heavier seat to carry.
With that said, I rarely carried (to save my back &
pain in pelvis). I always used the double Snap & Go.
Graco Snugride (was given to us new, not on registry) -
PROS: This is a very light carseat! Pattern is nice. I
like how I have the option to move the sunshade towards
the feet in case the sun was in a different direction.
CONS: We HATE the lock & handlebar on the seat.
Everytime we took the seat out of the car the bar goes
up & after putting into car, you gotta put that sucker
down. It is hard to press & move. Also our baby was
"swimming" in this seat for months. This meant I had to
lug extra blankets to roll to help position the baby =
more to wash. Also, not plush seating = more crying
baby in this seat. He cried less or didn't cry when
using Peg Perego. Britex (convertible) Decathlon &
Marathon - We LOVE Britex!!! Cushy seat which makes
happy, quiet kids in the back. We tried a different
brand on my daughter and she hated it (was too big for
her). This one bushes them in and is a good height so
they can see out of the window. CONS - None. Worth
every penny. Double Snap & Go - PROS: I personally
loved using the double. It was convenient to fold, easy
lift, roomy basket. Used it mostly for shopping, eating
at restaurants (parked it on the side our table if boys
were sleeping). Got through aisles fine as most
department stores I went to had room to walk. CONS:
Harder to turn sharp corners on a sidewalk
(specifically). Single Snap & Go + Ergo - PROS -
Lightweight, easier to use on walks around
neighborhood. Easier to use carrier when babies were
young. CONS / Harder to use carrier when babies were
>18 lbs. Bumbleride Indie Twin - PROS - I LOVE this
stroller!!!!! Can push w/ one finger and these babies
get heavy (can't tell in this stroller). Lots of
accessories & love snack tray (use a lot). Also easy to
fold. Great stroller for walking outside CONS - Very
heavy stroller (40 lbs)!Mclaren - Great lightweight
stroller. All my kids love the sunshade as it
overextends (handy when putting them to sleep. CONS:
Hard for grandparents to learn how to close. Harder to
change to laying down position. Peg Perego Aria - PROS
- only loved it if used w/ carseat (was very handy).
Easy to fold & fold back seat for naps. CONS: Besides
expensive, the tiedown/ belts aren't secured well. Hope
you find helpful :)
