We have three month triplets and we've been propping
since we brought them home at two weeks old (they were
born at 34). Parents need to sleep!

For night feedings my husband would feed them while
they were still lying down in their crib together. Not
sure if you're "supposed" to feed babies while they are
lying on their backs, not propped up, but it worked for
us. I think we began this around when they were 1-2
months old. They were also born at 34 weeks.

The endless sippy cup debate! They all vary in
annoying-ness, so I think the key is to find something
you can tolerate. A couple we

personally like the Nuk ones because they don't have
any fiddly little parts... my twins aren't as thrilled
by them, but my older one loved them. Go figure.

Don't know if it's too late to chime in here - but I'd
recommend trying both at once. They can learn a lot
from one another. (That said -- you know your kids
better, and whether they tend to hit milestones at
roughly the same time or not... ) It was definitely a
group activity for us - we did the 3-day thing, too -
and I think that took the pressure off a little bit.
Plus, they were already used to doing just about
everything together, so it would seem odd to suddenly
change that. We would get them onto the potties (at
the same time, each time) at REALLY regular intervals
(spacing them further apart each of the 3 days...) but
after that, whenever one would have to go, we'd just
kind of bring the other along, so in a way, the
spotlight was less on either one, if that makes any
sense. Anyway -- it worked well for us! It helped
giving them lots of salty snacks and JUICE (watered
down) for the first time, so that they HAD to go way
more frequently. It was also helpful having the
potties just out in our bathrooms, for weeks, maybe
even months, before we starting the formal training.
When one of them voluntarily sat down on one a couple
of times, we knew it was time!We ran an article in the
Sept/Oct 2011 issue of Multiplicity that might be
helpful to read... you can find it in just a few
clicks by going to the "Files" tab here, and searching
for that issue. You can then open or download it right
there.GOOD LUCK to you, with whatever stage you're in
now... Cheers!

Thank you for your private and public messages. We got
a handle on the sleeping--imperfect, and will begin
sleep training once they are no longer sick. The twins
had ear infections (3 out of 4 ears say OUCH) and when
coupled with parents being ill, travel, it was really
hard for a while there.Thank you again for your
thoughts and encouragement!
